I got rear ended

I have some experience with this. I was rear-ended with 4K miles on my SUV.
Your damage doesn't look too bad and I wouldn't bother me on a rugged piece of equipment but then again it's not my SUV.

When I was rear ended the other truck (tundra) was going 5-10 MPH , Tore a little vertical hole in my bumper cover 2-3 inches.
Quotes with 3 days rental were around 1-1.4 K. The person that hit me didn't want to go thru insurance and ended up meeting me with 1.5K cash. I gave him back $200 and said it's all good.

(My estimates were given to me in the san diego area 92126, 92121 area).

Wife got rear ended last year at about 10 mph. rear bumper skin got indentation from bolts behind it and a backup sensor got smashed. Quote for replacing bumper skin, sensor, and new paint was a little over $1500. I got a CBI bumper with custom powder coating installed myself for about $1600. I actually would of been ahead if I didn't replace the backup sensor but I ended up buying a new one and modified the CBI bumper to take on the sensors.

That was to replace the rear valence, bumper cover, trailer hitch and repaint. I didn't even think of the hitch but the adjuster said it could have damaged welds and wanted to replace it anyway. (Impact was under 5mph so I doubt it took any real damage)

I ended up cashing out and getting a new set of wheels. I bought some $5 clips that broke off from the dealer and just plastidipped the valence.

Just got my first quote at 900 dollars.. I have another appointment tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
 
Beware: Some states have ordinances making it illegal to maintain hitches/balls/whatever-that-thing-is in your receiver if it's not in use for towing.

Looks like the Honda engineers design did exactly what it was supposed to do.

I promise I never touched your VW, but I had a similar accident in my 4R. Traffic came to a stop when leaving my neighborhood (turns out a power line was down blocking the only road). I came to a stop at the crest of a steep hill. Traffic wasn't moving and my kids were whining, so I decided to go back home. I looked in the left and center mirrors, it was clear, so I started backing. *BEEEEEE-CRUNCH!* A little car had pulled up behind me, below the crest of the hill, and was way off to the right. Had I looked in the right mirror I would have probably seen him. My 4R didn't get a scratch, but my 2" ball tore into the front of that car like it was a case of free Depends at an incontinence convention. Plastic and fluids everywhere. I don't even want to know how much it cost my insurance company.

Lesson learned: Do NOT leave the hitch in because it blocks the backup sensors.

I got rear ended some time ago and got around $1500 but we don't have those snap on valences for my model year so it was full bumper cover replacement. At some point I need to order a CBI bumper...

I think that if something is in a way of your back up sensors you will be hearing constant beeping, unless you turn them off. When I have my hitch in place, it does not block my back up sensors
 
I've done worse on the easy trails. Leave it as is until you get some real damage.

Edit: sorry just noticed it was a Pro. Ignore the above and get it all fixed and double wax the rest, just because :)
 
The biggest issue was that it ripped a gash in my hood, tore through the front grill, destroyed the radiator, and required a new bumper. The guy basically just threw it in reverse before checking, and I usually leave a fair distance between me and cars at stop lights. Practically crawled up my hood.

He jumps out and starts to say I hit him, before he realizes I not only had a passenger with me, but had a gopro installed that I was testing out for a project. He shut up mighty quick, but he tried to pull the "i'm friends with this body shop, lets not go through insurance, I just got done paying it down."

"Cool story dude, but nope, going through insurance!"

Exactly. Constant beeping in reverse with the hitch installed, so they had to stay off. Maybe I need a shorter hitch.

I think all they'll have to do is replace the bumper cover... couple hundred at most. If they have to replace the bumper it's another story. If your receiver was torqued then that will also be a little more.

I was rear ended a year ago this week, and I did not have a hitch on it at the time. It dented the hatch, cracked the bumper, "damaged" the receiver ( i think it scuffed it), and ruined the bumper cover. $1900 after a $400 deductible.

why did you have to pay for a $400 deductible if it's not your fault?
 
I recently got rear ended by a semi. Low speed.
Here's my estimate , paid instantly by trucking company
