I have my 4runner back but have questions.

My 96 4runner went down with a blown head gasket, I took it all apart then figured that I was over my head. I had labeled things well and hired a mechanic to put it all back together. I got it back yesterday and have a few questions.
1. It idles really high, about 2K rpms, how do I adjust that down?
2. When I first started it I could hear bubbling sound behind the dash, similar to the sound I could hear when the head gasket went out. Is this a problem or does some of the air in the system need to be bleed off?
3. The mechanic said I need a new clutch fan. I've heard how to test them is to use a piece of cardboard or paper and while running see if you can slow or stop the fan from turning. I did this and it didn't seem to slow at all. It also seems to stay about middle range on the temp gauge.
Any suggestions?

1.Its probably your throttle cable with too much tension on it. Try to loosen the throttle cable on the top of the engine. You have three wires, the one from the passenger side is your cruise control wire. The other two are transmission kick down and your throttle. youll need two 14mm open end wrenches i believe to loosen the tension on wire.

2. You need to flush out the heater core. Same bubbling noise happened to me. Pull off the 2 heater hoses on the fire wall (passenger side), stick a hose in one, turn on the water and flush it out. Add more coolant later.

1. Probably a vacuum leak from him leaving something disconnected. He shouldn't have touched the throttle cable adjustment to do the head gaskets.

2. You're probably correct with air being trapped in the system. It might work its way out on it's own, or need to be bled.

3. A good way to test a fan clutch is to put a piece of paper in front of the grille after the truck warms up. You *can* grab it and try to stop it, but good luck and be careful. If the truck doesn't run warm and it'll hold paper in the grille, I wouldn't worry about it.

2 out of 3 items seem fixed

I took the 4runner on a little drive and the bubbling sound seems to have gone away and it seems to be idling as it should. Maybe it just needed to run for a bit to get things figured out??
It did start to heat up more than normal so I have order a Hayden fan clutch. If that fixes the heating issue, I will be one happy man.
