I know what Toyota recommends but what do you guys say??

What do you guys recommend (mileage and product) for changing the differentials, transfer case, transmission fluid, air filter and any other consumable on the 04 V8 4runners. I won't be towing and the only thing I will be hauling is "ME", so it's a light load . Most trips will be over 15 miles each way with little to no rush hour traffic.

I think you have IV ATF in your 4 speed which is already synthetic, if you change it at 5K miles I think you would be wasting your money. If you have the 5 speed automatic don't use anything but Toyota WS ATF or you will be real sorry. I waited until 15K miles to change the diff's and transfer case in my 95 Landcruiser, why do you want to do it at 5K? What is the benifit long term? I've read a lot of posts on going to synthetics in the engine, sounds like a great idea if you change it yourself and not try and do extended drain intervals, what interval are you looking at?

I figure its not going to hurt anything to change it. I'd like to get some of the metal bits out from the initial break in period out of all those parts. Other than being anal when it comes to maintaining my car, there is no reason to change at 5k. After that I'll probably adopt a 45k change interval for the diffs and transmission and a 60k interval for the transfer case.

With the WS fluid in the 5speed I would leave it, it is lifetime, everything else I would monitor and do 15k or 20k but I'll most likely change all the fluids and flush my Type IV Trans fluid at 30k, I'll see what they say about replacing it with WS
