I need bigger tires...or something

I want to give my runner a more agressive look, and looking at these photos Im thinking I need fatter tires. Yes, I know I will remove the running boards eventually dont have a cow man Im running stock tire size on these factory rugged trailer 265-70-16 but can I even clear bigger tires without a lift? I would love a 3 inch lift but cant afford anything like that now. What is the biggest tire size that can be run without a lift or any modifications or rubbing, thanks!

Im also considering selling these trd wheels and tire setup for about $1,000 and using that money for all terrain on my five spoke wheels and getting a can of plasti dip for the rims...advice?

I think its also the idea I have a one tone silver car and not the 2 tone which I like better, gives the appearance more of a wagon then a rugged off road toy

I agree that your truck would benefit greatly from some slightly upsized tires. The consensus is that 265/75/16's fit fine with no modifications necessary. Since you don't have a lift, I think going that route is your best bet. Especially if you go with a more aggressive all-terrain such as a BFG AT or Goodyear Duratrac (see mine), it will give the illusion that the tire is even bigger because its meatier. It will change the whole appearance of the truck. Hope that helps, good luck!

If there was a way to paint that lip with like a hyper black or a gun metal, then add some 265 75's i think it would give it a more aggressive look too! no lift required :bigok:

Ive thought about plasti dipping the lip on the wheels, and Ive read up on the duratracs.

Should I keep these rims or maybe sell them with the tires for about $1,000 and use the money to plasti dip ($10) my stock 5 spoke rims and use the remaining $990 to put toward new duratrac tires? Wondering if maybe Ill regret tossing these black wheels and moving to a cheap dark gray finish of plasti dip.

Also for those of you who have duratrac I know you all seem to like them, are they quiet on the highway and any complaints at all?

If you aim for appearance you're going to fail every time, and guys with trucks that actually use them as trucks instead of dressup dolls are going to laugh at you.

You can't afford a $1,000 lift but you can afford a $1,200+ set of tires? Or did you mean the both of them together? In my opinion, I'd save and do both bigger tires AND a lift, so you can have the best of both worlds. And I also think you'd be really surprised how much it'll look "lifted" after you pull your running boards, I have people all the time ask me how much my truck is lifted, and it's not at all.

Of course I would love a lift but more then likely never going to happen, and yeah those running boards are expected to come off this summer some time.

i say keep the wheels man. they look unique. Everybody has the plastdipped 5 stars. If money is gonna be tight, and your like me when you want something really bad. (Sell what ever you can to buy stuff for the rig ) then go for it!

Spacers are the cheap way to go, but you're better off is selling your $1000 set and buying a $200 set. Save your money and get a real lift.

Also, a slightly more aggressive tire? Maybe a larger, more aggressive tire, like All-Terrains or you could venture into mud tires.
...Depending on where that truck will be most of its life.

I say remove the running boards and swap the tires so the letters are on the inside. I like those rims. They match well.

IMO what makes a truck aggressive looking is the lift more than the tire. The raked look of the back being higher makes our 4runner's look real aggressive. Your back is sagging and IMO is what causes it not too look mean and tough.

Remove and sell your brush guard and use that money elsewhere and IMO Plasti-dip is soooooo played out and be proud of your stock silver 5 stars which look retro cool now.

This summer I plan on getting some 265 75 16 Duratrac tires, painting or plasti dipping the lip, removing the running boards, and maayybee remove the sticker (it bugs me its so big but I get compliments on it all the time).

As for the brush guard I have thought of removing it but I have those 2 lights and dont know what I would do with those, maybe once I get a nice roof rack. I might keep that and the tail light guards on and see how it looks once the rest is done

Also, removing the mud flaps? I never even thought of that, is that a thing?

I'd personally rather drill holes in my bumper for the lights than run a brush guard, unless you regularly drive through lots of heavy brush.

Those TRD wheels are awesome, don't get rid of them. But if you're in the desert I'd recommend a tougher tire than a Duratrac. They are great in snow and on dirt trails, but I wouldn't run mine around sharp rocks. The sidewalls are kind of thin.

And I don't like the stock mud flaps, they hang down too low. I ditched mine completely, and I know people who cut them off flush with the bottom of the bumper/fender flare.

Just make sure the duratracks are load range e. we wheel the heck out of them on rocks in Colorado and most of the people I wheel with have them and crawl with them in Moab as well. When they first came out we saw a lot of problems with the side walls. Haven't seen much of it lately. I just bought a set of 285/75's for my new 3rd gen build.
