I need fender flare paint recommendations

I want to paint the gross faded stock fender flares on my truck, and I want it to look as nice as possible, but I haven't painted anything like this before and I'm not sure what paints or primers I need to be looking at.

I know a large part of the quality is how well the job is done, and that will depend on me, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest the best paint to use for this. Originally I was thinking I would paint them a matte black with bedliner or something, but I found this image of another truck and I really like the gloss paint color on their truck.

I had good success with a Rustoleum product. I used a matte black which still came out pretty smooth, they may have a glossy kind as well. Here's a link to my project thread about it: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/2531744-post21.html

I repainted mine black with Rostoleum trim paint, it comes in black and charcoal grey. I think they turned out very well.

I used Rustoleum Hammered Black on mine over a year ago, and they are still holding up well. It finished off looking dark gray, which is what I was after, but mine has the wider Limited flares on it. Painted the trim the same color, came out great.

Are you looking to color match the body or just paint them black like others suggested? You can just go get some acetone/degreaser to clean them up. Primer and then paint and then gloss clear. Rustoleum is great. I like SEM paints though. If there's any scratches you would have to sand them then use body filler(bondo) and then primer/paint. It's not a hard job just a time consuming job.

I don't want an exact color match, black is probably still fine. It's hard to tell what color the flares are on the example photo I posted, but I really like how those look.

That looks nice. I mean the rest of my paint isn't great, but this should make the body look a little nicer.

Either is mine. Re-painting the flares made the entire truck look much better though. Took me maybe an hour or two the pull the flares off, clean them up and paint them.

Here is what it looked like before, mine weren't as bad as yours but still looked like ass. You'll also notice the rust on the rockers. I ground that all off and used bed liner on the rockers. I think it turned out excellent!

THANKS! I don't want these chipping. Though eventually I may have the body repainted and at that time I might leave the flares off, so it might not matter.

Thanks Kevin, but I'm not a fan of plasti dip. The previous owner sprayed the grill and all the badges with that product and it looks faded and chipped. That I don't find that product to be a very high quality solution for painting. It's more of a temporary guard for existing paint.

Tyler's 4runner which you show as an example has Limited flares which are smooth plastic.. yours look to be SR5 with more texture.. keep that in mind when choosing paint.

That would be really cool and super appreciated! I've got a 02 Sport edition with the fatlip bumper. I've eyed up the flares a few times thinking about how to get then off, but I guess I'm just not 100% confident I'd get then off without breaking them. That and I don't have a rivet gun.

Unfortunately there's pretty few write ups on how to get them off and I've been unable to find any videos anywhere. The best writeup I saw was missing all the pictures because it was on a very old thread.

I had my fender flares wrapped in vinyl and I absolutely love the outcome.

On my 97, there was just a handful of screws to remove and you just pull the flares down out of the clips around the wheel well. It wasn't hard at all to remove them but I'm not sure if it is different for other years.
