I bought a 2000 SR5 a couple of weeks ago. It has 144K on it and it looked like the PO didn't do very much maintenance on it but I bought it "right"
Here is what I've done:
Timing belt, Water pump, Belts
New Firestone AT tires
New Tie rod (inner and outer)
New fuel filter
New left rear axle seal
Radiator flush,
oil change, plugs, air filter.
It was running great. We took a 45 mile trip on the Interstate today and it drove fine. On the way home, it began to shake severely. I pulled over at the rest area because it was bad enough to scare us. It seemed like the vibration was coming from the engine compartment. It now starts shuddering at about 60 MPH. It continues when I slow down all the way down to 20. If I pull over and stop, it drives smooth as butter until about 55 MPH. I checked the harmonic balancer and it seemed tight. I can't see anything wrong with the driveshaft and the zerks were recently greased. Is it possible that the oil on the rear drum wasn't all cleaned off when the seal was done? Would the stuck drum cause this shudder? IT almost felt like it was near the front of the truck in the engine compartment. The engine sounds fine. It was almost like a giant miss at 2200 RPM's. I am at a loss for what's wrong with it. Did something go wrong with the timing belt? Anyone have any ideas?
