I Need Performance Help

i just got a 1991 6cyl 4runner and im alittle disapointed with it. i was hopping it had a bit more power. i love the look and feel of the truck. i was gonna by the pathfinder but i like this way better. anyway i want to add about 100 hp to it.

so pretty much what is the easyest least expencive way to meet that goal. still in mind i want to do it right. no jimmy rigged ways or unsafe ways.

is there a good perfromance chip for it?
how big of an exhaust should i get?
would a hotter cam be usefull? fuel system( what size fuel pump, injector size, etc)
or are the better ways to get there??
i think a chip would be the best way if there is one. what is a good web site to find parts for them??

also im having a problem with the truck. when its in park or nutral it revs very high. like at 5000+rpm. in drive or reverse its fine just park and nutral it revs high. what do u think the prob is. is there an idol control on the truck or could the throttle be sticky. my supra had a simalar problme an di just spayed wd40 on the throttle springs and the prob went away. any suggestions???

You are very limited with mods to the 3.0slow it is what it is.

You want 100Hp...swap the 3.4L w/supercharger or go V8


You will never get 100Hp more out of the 3.0L

I agree with Mike. There is no reliable way to get 100hp out of either the 3.0l V6 or the 2.4l 22RE. You could probably get 30-40 with cams, OS valves, P & P, headers and exhaust, but to get 100 would take a supercharger or NOS on top of all that.

You really need to consider an engine swap. Even if you get your 3.0 to those levels it won't last very long. Drop in an engine that's designed to have those output levels.

You could try a 3.2 stroker kit and tell me how you like it but for the cost of doing that you woul dbe better off swapping in a 3.4. Like every one else has said you just can't get another 100 hp out of the 3.0. It's a good little motor key word being little. 3.0 is pretty much as small of a V6 as you will find.

As for mods you could look at cams, injectors, over sized valves, over sized throttle body, port and polish, Headers with about 2.5 Inch pipe.

Jet makes a ECM program for the 3.0 but i don't think its worth the money and I think just about everyone will agree.
