What needs to be done/the bad

It needs a small tune up. Just you're basic stuff like o2's, MAF clean, new plugs and wires, new fuel filter, possibly new rad. and tranny cooler to diverge from straw. mlkshk. With all the additional weight, tires, and ect ect.. it gets about 15-16 mpg and that's 50/50 driving. With a tune up I'm confident it can get upwards of 18+ I'll prob just end up doing the tune up before I trade it.

Upon swapping the rear axle out for the trd e-locker I was graced with 4.30 gears. This was a complete axle swap, hub to hub. The original gears are 4.10s, meaning the front needs to be changed out to 4.30s. I have all the parts (spare front diff, OEM 4.30 gears, ect..) It's not a big deficit so driving offroad would not be a problem. However, driving on road would eventually tear the front end up. Thankfully, here in AR it's summer and I have no reason to be driving on the road in 4wd.

The rear driver side window motor is going out

The is a dent in the back left corner of the rear bumper

Rock rash on the back left mud flap

Some scuffs and scrapes on the back left fender flare

The truck was backed into on the driver side in my driveway by my father (reason for ARB). But, it slightly pushed in the corner of the fender right below the corner light/headlight. I was able to pull it out. Barely noticeable but there are some scuffs. The little piece that sits below the headlight is is loose but stays in it's spot. Does not affect any other parts on how the fit or function.

Light scuffing on the driver kick panel and rubber seal is torn up. Was there before we bought it.

When tuning in my front suspension with the adjustable bilsteins, I managed to booger up the top stud on the passenger side strut. The nut is stripped on there and has proven itself to be ok for on and offroad. If taken off I doubt the nut will go back on this last time and will require a a new top stud. These are just pressed in and can contact bilstein for more information. I never worried about it cus it's plenty safe and works fine but will need to be something attended to if taken off again.

Side Notes

The truck is in great mechanical and physical shape. The interior leather is in great shape. It shows some wear but there are no holes, patches, cuts, or any defects.

Honestly, different odds and ins make this 4runner just shy from being perfect. It's never broken down on me, never leaked a single fluid, and never over heated. A nice detail/wax job and tune-up would make this runner an even more awesome on and offroad vehicle. It's very dependable and has no problems going 70+ down the interstate.

I'm sure I have left a few things out and some will come to mind later. I just need to know what someone in the market for a vehicle like this would give. I have no doubt if I fix some of the small issues this 4Runner could go for around 8-9 if not more. I've easily put 4K+ in it myself not to mention the hours of labor I've spent on it, too. It still has TONS of life left. I don't expect to get back what I've spent during the time I've had it. However, I do expect it to slightly increase the value of the truck being that it's ready for whatever you wanna throw at it now.

Here's the deal coming from a guy that bought & sold alot of vehicles over the last 30 years.

Unless someone has a Boner for what your selling, you WILL NEVER recover 1/4 of what you've spent on aftermarket stuff. Go to a dealership and see what I mean.

SUV values are low even though "experts" say the used vehicle market is at its peak.....Maybe for small, fuel sipping cars. Take a look at a NADA book and you'll get a pretty fair assessment of what you can get.

I have a '98 Limited with 36,000 original miles, only in the rain 3 times since new, right at $50g in it with all the mods. No dent, dings, scratches ect. Undercarriage is as clean as what you see in the rest of this pic. Complete undercoating. I cringe when I think what its worth on the market......

Best advice I can give you is, If there's something else that floats your boat, you take what you can get and move on to it. Vehicles are never worth what us owners think they are.

I totally understand... I don't expect to get nearly what I put into. The only reason I made this thread is too see how close I can come to his asking price in trade. Mainly to see how much I'd have to spend extra. If it's at the point to where a resale value of my truck is too much lower he's probably gonna take off the supercharger and fuel upgrades to even the trade. Which, ideally, I want those parts to stay on the truck. If not then oh well, I guess I'll live.

id say your looking at least $8-9k as it sits... at least thats what you could get out here on the west coast possibly more if you where willing to sit on it and not in a hurry to sell.

:iagree: probably 8-9k, for me IMO interior is huge so if it was pretty dang clean inside I would say upper 8's not a well kept inside way low 8's IMO, if you could get that bumper fitted for the body lift so it fit flush, and the sliders look a little faded, maybe its just the pic but a fresh coat would never hurt, i think those 2 alone would be a big help for the outer appearance..again IMO, its a good looking rig though!! good luck i love Tacomas!!! :frog:

thanks guys.. and sliders we're painted little over a month ago. They are just really dirty lol. My baby hasn't been hand washed since prob bout this time last year. Maybe around 9 or 10 months. I've washed it at the carwash bay multiple times, but that thing doesn't really do much but light surface clean.

I say you give her a detailing inside and out, adjust that bumper, then post some pics to help give a closer asking price....if you want of course

veterans, this means you

suggest you go Navy & then get out!

But seriously now ... that is a very nice rig. Don't sell it, you will regret doing so.

Here is what will happen:

The stealerShip will offer you $5000 trade in value (maybe), they will tell you how all your mods make it worth less and that they had to deduct from the trade in price. Then two weeks after you take the $5k, when you drop by you will see the truck for sale for $9000 or whatever is higher than KBB. The sales person will try to sell it by telling the customer how much value those mods added to the truck and why it is worth it.

Not sure if the dealership will succeed in getting full+ value after screwing you but they will try like hell and there is no shortage of dumb@sses out there who will buy a modded truck for $$$.

*** We mod our trucks because we intend to keep them until they die ****

So in closing, unless your family is sick or you can't put food on the table then I suggest you keep it because it will always be cheaper to fix it in the long run. It isn't cheaper to keep modding it in the long run though, so stop spending on mods and start putting cash in a 4Runner maintenance savings account :)
.
EDIT: I didn't read the full OP - he isn't trying to sell.

Yeah in the Bay Area you could definitely get 8k for it and possibly more. A stock 99 limited is up for sale with 155k for 8k, so around there.

lol. I'm hopefully trading it to a buddy for a 3 linked sac'd tacoma who is having problems selling it at this time. He's then gonna sale my 4runner cus it's not such a specialized truck like the taco is and will most likely sale a lot faster.

here's a some pics of the taco. It's demello offroad's old truck. Body's a bit banged up but I got plenty of connections to fix that in no time.

lol is right. btw that Taco is nice also but I still prefer the 4Runner.

I agree in a sense... the 4runner has always been my dream ride and I have one of the best year models you can get. However, I rarely have passengers anymore and it's getting too difficult to haul stuff and relying on a trailer (especially when I don't have my own). In addition, I've always had suv's and I think it's time to move on to a truck. a capable one at that. I'm tired of breaking cv's and worrying about body damage. It's time to go big or go home.....

.... and im not going home :D

ok ok, back on topic.

My guess is that your buddy is looking for between 12k-15k. They are totally different rigs but if you can throw your rig and 2-3k and he will go for it I think it would be a great deal for you if your looking for a purpose built rig like that. I guess the question is if you could get a lot of that done to your runner how much would you be willing to spend? Do you have the fab skills to SAS and install the supercharger? if you do you could source parts and have one BA Runner for about 5K. And you could sell some of the parts off your runner to offset cost. Then you would have a backseat and the ability to go anywhere and sleep in the back. That would be my vote. Good luck in your decision.

Also speaking as someone with a rig that has 39 PBR's if this is going to be your daily driver you will hate the road manners of that truck. Off Road I believer there is no Tire better that isn't a sticky but on the street you will quickly get tired of the battle to keep it running straight down the road. Just my 2 cents and experience :roadkill:

I will say this much.. he isn't selling for as much you think he is. The condition of the body is keeping this rig from being a 14k rig. He spent almost 12k for the truck and getting it to Arkansas from California. He's willing to sell at a loss b/c not only am I a friend but it's been for sale for a while now. I do understand the concept of fabbing the 4Runner.. however, I lack to tools, manpower, garage, and most of all, the $$$.

Yes, the pbr's ride rough lol. If in fact this trade goes through I will be looking for some used 37's and just get some steel wheels for now. I'll be selling off the tires and beadlocks. The tires alone will fund some used items for me. Thanks for your input. It's greatly appreciated.

I'd say $9k or maybe a little more if you do the work that needs to be done before you sell/trade. That's one nice 4Runner and that's about how much it would go for in my area.
