I need to get fricken tires

Was out playing tonight , roads were dry and its cold as hell here . Started to snow and have about 6" so far . Its light fluffy snow , I was sliding all over . I guy with a little Saturn flagged me down to pull him out . I didn't want to even try because I knew I wouldn't get traction on the road. A guy with a Burb came along and yanked him out , along with half his front bumper.....lol. ( it was a beater car ) .

I blocked traffic and had to turn on my strobe light on because the roads were horrible and slippery as hell and people were still flying like it was summer time. Idiots !!! When they can see some distressed vehicles there on the side of the road.

I upped my tire pressure and it has helped somewhat for better traction. My tires are about at 25-30% tread left.

So, were you slipping due to really really bad weather OR was it due to your worn tires??

Why was the Suburban able to pull out the Saturn and you could not?? Did it have better tires?

I would recommend goodyear SilentArmor or BFG AT KO.

The only thing is that Falls does off-road somewhat frequently...alaskaman, have you off-roaded with your Scorpions yet?? If so, then how did they perform?

That's the problem with stopping to help someone out when they are stuck.... If you do any damage to their vehicle, you're liable.

I'd just as soon leave 'em stuck. Unless it's a vehicle like a truck based SUV that I know won't fall to pieces if I hook a tow strap to it!!!

Probably a combo of both , it was slippery and my tires have close to 40 on them . He pulled him because I was like go for it , he was a nice guy , but the scary problem was everyone else driving so damn fast in those conditions and we wanted to get as much warning out as possible.

The other car was a pc of crap , the guy didn't care just wanted to be on his way.

As far as my off road excursions go , I do it when I can .

Hey Thai, re Scorpions

The only thing is that Falls does off-road somewhat frequently...alaskaman, have you off-roaded with your Scorpions yet?? If so, then how did they perform?

I used to have a Nissan Patrol (yeah I know they dont sell them in the US) it was back in the old country Australia - 14 years ago, I had a top of the line GQ Patrol, kind of like the Infinity Q45 (i think it is) anyway I had Scorpions on it, and I spun the darn thing on asphalt road, a full 360 degree spin at highway speed as I went thru a wet patch on a cold road. So I have stayed away from them since. But I will admit they were pretty darn good in rocks, snow, sand and fantastic in mud and on the beach

My 4Runner is in the shop getting these installed as I type this. I can't wait to try them out. We're heading to Steamboat tomorrow, so I should have a good snow traction report.

The trip home from the tire shop was night and day. Granted, I only have worn Dunflops to compare the new tires to. The ride is just slightly more loud so far. The truck for sure handles better, and sits up slightly taller. My driveway has a slight incline, the Coopers didn't spin once in 2WD on packed snow. The Dunlops needed a running start, and traction control would kick in.

Falls, where was the incident? With the sub-zero temps around here lately, there have been numerous slick spots, and tons of accidents every night and morning. You'd think people that live here would wise up, but no, most of them don't.

By the way, my 12mpg GY WSA's have owned all this inclimate weather. I have never been so confident of a vehicle in snow/ice than I am of my 4R with these tires on. And each of my cars before the 4R have always had Blizzaks on them in the winter. So that is definitely saying something.

Do I rock crawl .....that would be a no !! Do I run into rocks , gravel , dirt , water ?? All part of it I guess. Love snow wheeling is my favorite and can have just as much fun on a road in a snow storm than off road in snow. Off road in snow everything seems so cushy .

Hell yeah it's been cold. I have to admit that my 4R has been idling for 10-20 min each morning to warm her up, and before taking the wife anywhere, since she's 6 months pregnant. On the current tank I just reached 200 miles and almost have to fill up. I really do think that after winter the mileage will improve greatly.
