I need to vent! ready to junk this truck!

I did LOTS of research on 861s before I installed mine. Check out the last few pages of my build for a "review" comparing my ride height before with new OEM LC 7.5 wraps vs OME 861s. They are a "stock replacement" coil for land cruisers. The caveat is that they are designed to support an additional load upfront like a bull bar and winch. Something like 200lbs over stock and provide .25" (minimal) lift on a LC.

All of the LC springs people use on 4Runners come from the front suspension of an 80 series land cruiser, they have the same seats as our rear suspension.

Installing 861s should get your rear end up higher, giving you more down travel with the shocks too.

I've got 4xInnovations rear bumper with swing out, full skids (radiator to gas tank), sliders, roof rack, hi lift, and the same box of goodies. I've got a little more weight than you do in the rear so I would expect your truck to sit a little higher than mine with the 861s in the rear.

Lots of members here run them, Big Fish All Day, 4-Ripcord, Flemster, Gerdo, and many others.

in one of your pics, its looks like you HAVE A LOT OF RAKE? was it because you didnt adjust the front? how is your truck standing now looking at it from side?

one advantage for me is i can adjust my dampening so maybe the 861 can ride little smoother

This is exactly why my 4Runners are as close to stock as possible, down to the the tire size. I won't settle on 265/75s, I want 265/70s. Everything just works in harmony when it's stock. I used to love tinkering but I realized I was perfectly happy with the 4Runner off the dealer lot and didn't want to ruin it by turning it into a testing ground.

I'm with you, times 1,000,000,000,000,000X

Did you see that guy Clownmeat or whatever that everyone on here drools over his custom rear turbo build? He just said his tranny had 2nd gear die. (No offense clownmeat).

The other thing I notice about T4R is when people start modifying, they leave no stone unturned and go buckwild. Everythings gets touched and change from stock.

Clown meat has also had his set up for 5+years and just recently started upping the power witch probably didn't help 2nd gear
Also a tranny could die from just daily driving witch happens to a lot of people every day. Then they go to the repair shop and they put in AFTERMARKET better stronger parts and fix the OE weaknesses.
And when parts wear out cause they do why not upgrade to something stronger or more to your liking i.e. Aftermarket.
If your just a work and home kind of guy then leaving yours stock is fine
But most of us like to have fun and push our vehicles to the limit till they break then we fix it better, stronger and do it all over again. Because hey look there that rock that ripped off your front bumper last time, make it your beotch this time.

None taken. Noun: abuse; cruel and violent treatment of a person or animal, in my case it was drivetrain. Have to pay to play, 6 years of boosted pulls I knew it was coming eventually. Just the Toyota gods letting me know I need a 5spd.

Maybe that new front bumper will mess with how the crumple zones work, and a high speed collision could make you the beotch. Just another thing to think about when modifying.

The fact that it survived that long is a testament. But agreed, you've gotta pay to play.

You have obviously never seen how much more protection you get from having a full steel bumper. Unless your in a high speed collision with a wall (witch then possibly nothing could save you) your much more protected and so is your vehicle, it's the other car that needs to worry about hitting you or you hitting them.
I've seen cars get totaled from rear ending someone with a plate bumper. And nothing but a couple scratches on the plate bumper.
It's called armor for a reason.
There are plenty of threads here providing proof and I've even read on here of someone's bull bar saving from frame damage.
But to each his own

That.

If you wanna stay stock do it. If you wanna go full SAS do it. To say one is better or more reliable then the other is a purely individual perspective. I know what my needs are and I know leaving my rig stock will leave me stuck more often then the repairs associated with the aftermarket components leave me stuck. Plus I like to build and break shit. Always have.

Are there any other rear Coils with slightly less lift ??

So 861 boys ??

I love my truck. And I don't think I'd have it any other way besides the big known companies actually testing their products with more then one sceneraio and acknowledging issues.

Frankly....comes off sounding holier than thou. Ain't your vehicle, ain't your business, IMO.

I agree here.

I think suspension mods are the tough cookie. You gotta know all the geometry and weight equations that change imo before diving in.

Armor is anothet story and just protection as you said.

LOL. Relax. I could give a rats ass what you do as long as you enjoy the vehicle. I'm just saying that modding a vehicle turns it into a chore of teething issues.

So with 861 in the back. The front should be at 3" ? When setting the front. What is the 3" mark ? From center hub to fender ( without fender covers ). Is it 24"? Trying to figure out best way to adjust the coilover. My friends shoo has a wheel alignment machine that can check ride height. But it checks it by you holding a little sensor at the fender

Also so 861 is the only coil that is good for over 3" with weight in the back ?

I'm going to say my back is, 350lbs. Sometimes could be more with a tool box and stuff. The savage rear bumper with tire carrier is 130lbs without the tire. Then how much can a 285/75/16 with mk6 rim weight ? 60-80lbs? Plus hi lift jack, plus a box of some goodies.

I've got 2 inches front to back rake. Exactly where I wanted it. When I had 1 inch of rake it looked level and I hated that look. Now the truck looks aggressive no matter how it's parked or how much I load it down. I'm keeping my front suspension where it's at because I like how it rides/drives now and I don't want to stress all the components up there more than I have to. These are my measurements after installing the 861s in the back.

DF 21 3/4" 36 5/8"
PF 21 3/4" 36 1/2"
DR 24" 38 5/8"
PR 24" 38 5/8"

These were my stock measurements.

DF 34 1/4" 19 1/8"
PF 34 3/8" 19 1/4"
DR 35 1/2" 20 1/2"
PR 35 3/4" 20 1/2"

I've got 2.5" of lift over my stock setup upfront. 3.5" in the back over stock. You can compare these numbers and see where you would sit approximately. I would think your rear would sit .5" higher or so since you're running less weight. Keep in mind this is without the rear cone bump stops inside the rear springs which will add 3/8-1/2 inch if you install them too.

The bumper and tire carrier weigh 130 lbs, but you are probably netting only like 70 lbs over stock once you consider the stock hitch and bumper you took off. The same thing applies to the spare tire.

I think on the front suspension you really shouldn't run anything over 23" or you're asking to become a CV shredding machine.
