I never change my oil filters- part 2 with PICS

Well I'm not changing another oil filter. It was a mess to change it. I was surprised too after reading previous post I thought the filter was going to be in bad shape but it looked really good for having such many miles. I couldnt see anything in the filter other than oil.

Wah oh no I got dirty!


You must be one of those office types who is afraid to get a little messy.

I sure hope you tell the next owner of your vehicles that you never changed the filter. Let's see how quickly they get turned off.

Well I do change my oil every 4k but I always use the cheapest oil at Wal-Mart. I'm keeping my Ranger for a go long while but when I do sell it I will lie through my teeth and tell them everything the want to hear. It's at 220k so the way I see it I'm on borrowed time already. The Ranger runs great so does my 4runner. If the engine goes out I'll buy a junk yard engine and put in myself, I've done before. I'm not telling anyone not change their oil filters, just question everything and judge for yourself

I'm a gambler so a part of me feel like not changing anything and if it does brake i can buy a used motor somewhere just to see how long the tbelt will last I found this one--

I've installed engines before not very hard just takes time, but what if the the belt goes 400k before it brakes and a junk yard engine is 2k and every t-belt change is 1k. So if i skip the tbelt change i would save 4k over the 400k miles. Minus the 2k for the junk yard engine I will save 2k and most likely get an engine with lower miles. This the best case scenario, but I'm sure it would make it to 200k on the original belt. So I will save 2k in belt changes minus the junkyard engine 2k I will bake even and get an engine with lower or the same miles.

I've removed and installed a 4x4 03 tacoma 3.4 engine, 96 tacoma 2.7, a 99 ranger engine 2.5, 02 blazer 4x4 v6 engine, 03 ranger v6 engine, Old chevy truck 350, a CRV engine, Honda civic engine, Ford escort, Taurus SHO (hard as hell). So I would just do it my self and save on labor.

Anyway, can someone let me know when this thread gets out of hand again because it pains me to read this

filters are cheap and filters break down. When it starts to break down the particles get into your engine. Duh!

Who has the proof Fram filters are bad?

That's all i ever hear on this forum. All i know is this. I don't use fram now but did for 35 years. I never had an issue with the filters or with the engines they ran on. Several engines (on american pos) lasted to 250K when i sold them running smoothly. So what exactly is bad about Fram? I don't need to hear they are contructed poorly or of crappy materials, I want proof your engines failed because of them being poorly contructed of crappy materials. I like bashing, but lets make sure we have the PROOF!

So while you realize that a prospective buyer would want a car where the filter was changed regularly, you're personal belief not only causes you to not change your own filter but to also go the extra step to lie to a buyer.

People don't "want to hear" things for no damn reason, they want to hear a filter was changed because it actually matters. Not agreeing with the fact that filters are a good idea is one thing, and while I honestly think it's one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever seen come from another auto-enthusiast's mouth, it's your opinion. This is more than just ignorance since apparently you're so full of shit your eyes are brown as evidenced by how you would lie to someone on a major selling point such as maintenance.

Its an interesting read, but the further pages start breaking down that "Jerry's" visit was all nice and everything, but Fram filters are still not that great. It looked like many guys did pressure tests, filtration tests, ect ect through out the thread seriously hampering the first post in many aspects.

It also didn't help that the OP doesn't seem to trust the "base model" Fram filters which raised red flags with many people in the thread.

The outside of my filters are dirtier than that at 5K miles!

It may not be necessary to change the filter every oil change, but for me it's cheap insurance, 3 filters a year at 6 bucks each, CHEAP insurance.

Thanks for the vid guys, it confirms my last 35 years of experience. I like the guy on the vid an not saying I'll buy Fram forever cuz i think they are the Best, we both are just saying they aren't bad (at least not the 99% efficient models) and at least as good as the other brands. Now can we All finally lay that down to rest and pick on something really crappy to cry about?!

Doesn't it strike anybody as odd that the guy who claims to not change his oil filter because it's too dirty or whatever is willing to take a hacksaw to his oil filter to try and prove a point? That the same guy that got laughed out of his first thread opens another knowing full well that he's going to get dogpiled again? That ANYBODY could look at the inside of that filter and sincerely think that looks ok?

Ok this is getting out of hand. All I wanted to do is tell my point of view. I don’t like to change my oil filters and I have never had an engine die on me, ever. I’ve driven hundreds of thousands of miles with different cars and trucks and I have never had an engine die on me. What I have notice is that if don’t share your point of view I’m dumb and crazy or lazy. I have yet to see any proof that filter changes will help anything. Other than speculation and conjecture. If my engine dies its one me but to date nothing has happened.
