Not true. If you have it set up right, you should be able to hold the call (or maybe the hang-up button ... I cant remember for sure) to activate Siri and then you just dictate to her (e.g. "Text my wife I'll be home soon" or whatever)

Negative. Unless there is another radio in the 4Runner that's one of the only features you're unable to do. I just tried it and said it's not capable to send a text.
I was able to issue the command "text So and SO" and it gave me a list of pre-programmed messages that I could send. It wouldn't let me dictate my own messages though.

Interesting. My wife uses her Entune all the time to text people. She just speaks into and it repeats and then just say send text. It works great. It's a 16 SR5

when i press the talk button on the steering wheel, I say send a message, it says "the connected phone does not support this feature".
i have no clue
Apparently this is the way to do it. You need to "activate siri" then you can issue the command to "text XXX", then dictate the text. :rockon:

Then you're doing it wrong. Try reading the manual. I learned about it either in the manual or by reading some of the prompts that came up on the head unit itself.

Off topic - ignore if that bothers you - Entune question
How about an incoming text. The only option I have is "ignore" the "read option is greyed out. I assume I need to set up some permissions somewhere....Any ideas?

Settings --> Bluetooth --> Hit the "I" logo next to the Toyota interface (I'm assuming Entune, but I don't have my dad's truck set up on my phone)
Toggle "Show Notifications"
Edit - Now thinking about this, I would also check settings in your bluetooth menu on the head unit. You may have that feature turned off there.

But like others I just hold the phone off the hook button in the wheel and ask siri to- text so and so, " Dont buy that jeep" or read last text from- so and so, and siri will say, "The last text from so and so was received at 8:30am, so and so said, I bought a Yugo instead. Would you like to reply?" I can have entire text conversations while driving.
Interesting we all know the same person, 'so and so' is a popular guy.

As far as holding the "off-hook" button on the steering wheel, the display has specifically given me a message that the voice command directly to the phone feature is not supported by the device. (6s Plus)
If you hold down the home button on the phone itself, Siri will activate and operate as expected (dictate texts, etc.) while utilizing the vehicle's Bluetooth for audio i/o.

Do a Google or YouTube search for "Siri Hands Free". It's available on all 2016 toyotas. You just need an iPhone. I have an iPhone 6 and use it all the time. I dictate texts, make phone calls, ask for the weather, etc. Only thing it won't let me do is google something. You just hold the phone off hook button for about 1 full second and it'll come up.

So i just tried doing it again but I have to hit Siri on my phone (which is no big deal) instead of the command button on the steering wheel.
At least I know it works a different way.
