I Think I Blew My Transmission This Morning

Car has been running great, and I pulled way from a stop sign normally, not even using any real gas and I heard/felt a thunk as I was accelerating and I started hearing metal/metal noise from the tranny tunnel.

Engine was free spinning no problem there.

Got about 10 ft and had to pull over. Put it in park and the car idle'd fine/quietly. Tried putting it back into drive, got some metal on metal noise again and no forward motion.

I'm assuming somehow my transmission completely let go out of the blue. Car has been running/driving/ shifting perfect.

I don't remember seeing anything bad about these cars reliability wise so I just wanted to double check and see if there's any common issues around this area,
It's an 2003 V8 4WD about 150k miles on it

Don't rule out your transfer case. Was it leaking for an extended period of time and you didn't know about it?

The A750f doesn't just give up the ghost.

That sounds like a ROUGE transfer case actuator. I saw a thread somewhere that the switch goes bad (sending the TC into 4lo.............. sometimes going into 4lo will make gawdawful metal on metal sound).

Just putting that out there.

Could be the transfer case, because it only made that sound in gear (aka when the output shaft would be spinning, and the shifter did seem to still be working (aka car only makes terrible noise in Drive, and Stopped when I put it in park)

Didn't try reverse or anything. I figured if it is broken playing around with it will only make it worse.

And like I said the tranny shifted great prior, and I know what a dying/slipping tranny feels like.

Just picked up our 2005 V8 after having a new transfer case fitted. The description of your symptoms sound an awful lot like our Toy after it blew out the case.
Total cost was $2800 for the transfer case online and $420 labor to R& R.

You sure an axle didnt split. When my lower ball joint bolt came out it left enough play for the axle to split in the front and it did what it sounds like yours is doing. Luckily I was in a parking spot when it happened.
