I think I mess up my 4runner :(

So i went mudding today and I got stuck in a hole, pretty deep. It came to the top of the rim. I have 33" tires. The water was high enough where the radiator fan was slapping the water. About an hour later I finally got it out. Girlfriends jeep pulled me out. On the ride home i noticed it wouldn't "go" when i mashed the pedal down hard. Only about 2500 rpms. I cleaned everything up(under the hood) and took it for a drive to dry all the water off. It felt like it was getting better but at high rpms. 4500+ it would make a real bad noise, I can't really describe it. It sounded similar to a revving engine but bad. Well it died on me going down the road and now it wont crank. It tries to crank... almost like the battery is dead, like slowly turning over, then it does some knocking and then it dies. What on earth have I done to my 4runner?!?!

The A/T temp light is on.
The Check Engine light is on. I don't know what codes its throwing yet.
The oil light is on.

It doesn't sound like there's any real point on guessing what's wrong with it. Your 4Runner knows what's wrong with it and has stored error codes to tell you. I'm sure you'll know a lot more when you get the codes pulled.

OP: It sounds to me like you made an electrical connection unhappy. Maybe toasted your alternator and now your battery is dead?

Check your codes, and report back. ALso check your battery's charge with a multimeter.

while it might be something eletrical. what would cause the engine to make a HORRIBLE noise while @ high rpms?
 
Water ripped off oil cooler/tranny cooler lines? If that's the case and you lost all your oil and/or atf it could cause the symptoms you're describing and yes you did mess it up. Hopefully not good luck

Well, not knowing what "similar to a revving engine but bad" means, I cannot tell you.

However, it could be your alternator being shot, and making a terrible noise. And not charging your battery.

Those lines are suprisingly delicate. Right after I got the 'Yank I busted a line from a pothole on the craptastic road I live on. Granted, the lines were the only component with any severe rust, my mechanic replaced em with some heavier gauge brake line.

I was looking under it. Nothing is leaking and when I took it for a spin after it was shifting fine. I checked the oil and it's fine. I'll have to find the codes
 
best thing for you to do is to get the codes read. any autoparts store will read them for you. Then take the negative cable off the battery to reset everything. if the issues come back then it actually is an issue, if they dont then it is likely you just got water/mud into a connector or two and into the serpentine pulleys and what not. its still a good idea to check you transmission and differential fluids
 
sitting in the water could have gotten water in the tranny (depending on the year).

Rocks/dry land = Break something and fix broken thing
Mud/Water = Something is broken (diag) + troubleshooting (pulling hair out) to the power of 2

You are going to have to get the codes read and then spend a little time and or money to get it fixed.

Advance stopped doing that, but AutoZone and Oreilly's still do.
