I think I mess up my 4runner :(

It looks to me, like there is something in the oil. But I am no expert nor a mechanic. I'm sad. I'm very very sad. Everything I'm reading about blown head gaskets are that the car overheats, mine isn't do that.. yet at least.

Edit: I don't know if the oil and water would eventually separate in the bottle, I haven't noticed ANY separation in the bottle let. I don't know if it can get mixed to the point where it wont separate, but I see none whatsoever. I know the pics are hard to see. I kept getting glare.

Edit 2: My radiator fluid is red so I assume if my head gasket was busted, the oil I drained out would have a red tint to it. Again, i'm not a mechanic and I don't know very much. I learn as I go. I retract my statement. I've been looking at the cup of oil and it doesn't look like anything but old oil to me. If I had to guess (the shop reset my oil change mileage) I would say the oil is 3000-4000 miles old. I deliver pizza 1-2 times a week(roughly 100 miles a day) so a lot of stop and go mileage.

Ih8mud. Seriously the fastest way to ruin a vehicle is to mud it. Good luck bro. Might want to make sure that fan didn't get into your radiator.

I honestly didn't know it was this bad or I wouldn't have attempted it. It look only about a foot deep. I have learned my lesson. I only really like rocks and solid ground anyways. I never did enjoy mud much, for this exact reason.
 
Hey man that's a tough lesson, you've got a lot of good info to start with here. From your description it sounds like your engine may have ingested water. Which can cause a number of bad things. Lucky for you its an 07 so you don't have the head gasket issue, they changed the design in 06. BUT that's not to say you haven't severely damaged something.

Don't give up on it though! These things are tough as nails. At the end of the day a new engine is still cheaper than a whole new ride. So just keep chipping away at the diagnosis and you will get it.

What's done is done. It's time to figure out what you broke. From the pics yout oil is fine. It doesn't sound to me that you ingested water but it is possible. Call the local auto parts store and see if you can borrow their scan tool. My local Advance loans theirs but you must give them your drivers license. The vid doesn't tell much.

He's right. Don't panic and don't keep fiddling around with it and trying to guess what's wrong with it. It's a waste of your time and money. Your truck already knows what's wrong with it, hence the check engine light. Get those codes pulled and you'll know with much more certainty what's wrong with it.
 
Yeah I dont think the oil has been compromised, which is a good thing. Have you disconnected the battery to reset the ECU?

You video sounds like a bad battery or ignition power. I am not trying to give false hope but it may be something stupid.

Aside from getting a code reader, which by the way if you are going to be using and working on your truck like you do, you need one.

Here is what I would do from here.

buy a ODB II bluetooth code reader on amazon and get it hooked up to your ANDROID phone. if you have an iphone, I cant help you. this will help you in the long run, but for now I would go to local autoparts store and see if they rent or lend code readers or somehow get those codes!

In the meantime, if all you have is to cool your heals i would do the following.

1. Physical inspection. Get a light and start looking for bent, broken or disconnected hoses, plugs, parts and wires.

2. Plus the spark plugs and check them and inspect the coil packs while you are doing it to make sure everything is good there.

I am taking it to a shop Monday. I'm thinking about taking it to Toyota just for the diag. I can't afford to have it fixed there. I know there could be a lot of things wrong with it. I'm glad water isn't in the oil because I really can't afford a new head gasket. I will post a video of the knocking in a moment.

I think you are panicking. You say you might tow it Toyota for a diagnostic test but you can't afford their work. You must know of a reputable independent shop. Again go find a scan tool. Plug it in and read all the codes. It's simple. Come back on here and do a search and post them here. People will help if they can but you have to give more info. Good luck.

I am panicking. I can't do anything till Monday so all I have left to do is think. It's killing me.

This will be my last post here. My guess is that you have wet plug coil/boots causing misfires. Go out and pull them and see if some are wet. The transmission can be addressed next.

That sounds like improper detonation (very exhausty). That would be spark/fuel issue (which is good news if i am right).

More good news, that does not sound like a rod or cam knock. so I doubt you have a bent rod, lifter, or spun main bearing. All of which are the death-blows you do not want to your engine. Almost sounds like you got some water in your fuel.

Edit: After listening to it again, it could be a rod. Mainly because it continues with increased RPMs and it kinda sounds like metal hitting metal. Which is expensive. But don't take this as gospel. I am still hoping fro detonation. Because I am certain it sounds lot different in person. Bottom line. too hard to tell from here...

It sounds just as you described. Louder with higher rpms. Kinda sounds like metal on metal.

We being as how it was the only other 4x4 available to me I was thankful it was there. Otherwise my truck would have stayed in longer.
 
Hey I like jeeps. In fact if I had the cash I would likely be driving a badass jeep and a challenger. I tell people all the time that if they like new cars then Chrysler/Jeep is the brand for them. Because they will be replacing them every 36 months due to catastrophic drivetrain failure.

Jeeps used to be top quality, that was before Chrysler got involved in their Mfg. Now that Chrysler is owned by this Company "Fiat" who owns: Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Ram and SRT.

I would not buy one.
