I Want A Trail Edition Hood

After all the modding I have done i should have just bought the trail or the pro in the beginning:doh:. I have been eyeing that trail edition (TE) hood for a couple years now. really the only thing thats missing visually from my sr5. Ive checked junk yards, left my card on other trucks, and emailed people on craigslist. haha no one wants to trade hoods or sell. I know the dealer can sell one to me but I'm trying to be a cheap skate and find a cheaper way.

Anyone have any ideas, or insight into how to get the TE hood. I own a silver SR5 but I'm open to any color hood and I will just get it painted afterwards. Of course willing to trade if I happen to be so lucky.

I contacted a dealer close up in LAX area and they quoted me for the hood and all the parts at $461. Of course they all come unpainted so I would still have to put cost of paint into it as well.

there have been rare occasions of people trading Trail to SR5 hood.keep your eyes peeled.

you can also buy one, and have it color matched.

as much as I love the air dam, man, is it a pain in the rear with the sun glare at times..
 
Look on eBay. A company sells the hood for less than you can get it directly from toyota. You'll also need the plastic "guts" that goes in the scoop.

For $230 on e-bay plus scoop parts and paint. If you want it cheaper than that then you are cheap :)

I moved to Salem, so it's not sunny here very often, when I lived in SoCal it was a bother often. Some have had just the scoop part painted flat black, looks good IMO.
 
I was thinking of doing this too but I am just going to hack up my hood and put a hood louver. I'm not sure how it'll look yet, it is just a thought i had to make it stand out a bit more.

And all of this time I've been driving around with my hand up to block the glare when all I had to do was move to the Pacific Northwest to solve the problem. :)

What year is your rig? Thats not a current 5th gen hood, just an FYI.
 
Trail hood scoop looks nice, but it's a real pain with the glare from the sun! Serves no purpose except esthetics and hinders visibility in bright sun light.

Just food for though.
 
If the glare is so bad why aren’t people trying to trade them away? Must not be as bad as people are making it out to be!✌��
 
Funny.... I have a '16 Silver TE and have been driving it for 21 months and 54,000 miles. I have never noticed glare coming off the hood scoop. Maybe I'm not paying attention to it, but if it has ever glared, it hasn't ever bothered me.

Your lack of experiencing it does not negate others experience. For all I know you commute from east or south of where you work so never deal with evening sun or morning sun in front of you.

Hmmm.... I was thinking of grabbing one of these hoods for my SR5 but after seeing this and knowing I live in AZ, where its ALL sun, I might have to reconsider.
