the ARB is such a great deal if you ask me, its lightweight for a plate bumper at 78lbs, and super strong. they way ARB builds them is actually pretty fascinating, its like a jig-saw puzzle, but that makes for a super strong yet light weight bumper, that is mass produced. its still air bag compatible, and i think complements the truck nicely... i think it would be worth it for you to call ARB, and try and get a "scratch 'n dent" bumper from them. basically they will sell factory 2nds or blemished bumpers -maybe in got dropped in the warehouse, or got dragged ect, other wise something minor happened to it that affected it slightly. ARB sells them at a discount. you have to drive to them to get it, but they sell them for around $5-600 depending on the damage. i bought mine like 6months ago, it already has some scratches from normal use, ive rubbed up against a few trees with it, used it to stand on to take pictures, towed a out of a ditch and a mud hole, winched a couple full-sized SUVs out ect. it does my no means look new anymore, but it also is not beat up, it just isnt shiny glossy perfect facotry new, so would it of been worth it to buy a factory 2nd or scratch 'n dent? you bet, and i would have if they had had any available.
your talking about having someone make you front and rear bumpers for a little bit more, well sure it can be done, but will they look as nice and as clean as an ARB? idk, will they have a backing from a company like ARB, probably not, will they be as strong as an ARB? probably not... im not trying to sell you an ARB because i make any money on it(cause i dont, trust me), im just saying they are good bumpers, this is my second one(dont have the vehicle i had the other one on anymore), and have been around several others for other vehicles, and i can say they are all made to be top notch. the though and engineering that goes into them is amazing, and most people dont even notice is. so its $200 round trip to come to the states, and say $600 for a bumper, now we are at $800, thats dealer cost on the bumper, but you still have fuel down to seattle and back so another $100 and you are at $900, pretty much average for everyone buying one brand new is paying. just yours has a small ding in it or scratch that in 4 months wont even be noticeable anymore. and hey if you can find one used then you can be saving a ton more, typically they sell for around $3-500 used. so theoretically you could be into one like $500 total cost if you find a used one. -just make sure it comes with all the brackets -you dont really need the skid plate or the cross over brace as those parts are not used on the 4runner instal. here is a link to my build thread with my wright up on the install of the tacoma ARB on our 4runners, hope this helps a little. ive done two of these instals, so if you have more questions feel free to ask.
