I was going to leave it stock this time build thread

Thanks for all the support guys! Been sooo busy at work I have not had much time for anything.

I have yet to get the 4 aligned and need to asap. I have a vibration at 60 and over thinking it may be tire balance. Not surprised, goes with the territory! That's why I was gonna leave it stock! No biggie just start the process of chasing it down. I suppose I could throw the sock wheels and tires on real quick and eliminate that variable. Just what I want to do.

Impressions on ride quality would be "nice". Not stiff or harsh, I would say better than stock for sure. The 600# front coils are great without extra bumper weight. I would doubt i would have been happy with the light option coils they offer in the kit. Slight rake looks just perfect. The Superflex rears are perfect!

Anyone have vibration issues after a lift like this? Share your thoughts!

I like the lift, not sure i like the superflex coils though, they don't look like they would hold up to weight of any kind. Plus i like a stiffer ride :thumb:
How are the coils up front feel? Thinking of doing this lift myself so I'm interested in your review :)

EDIT: just saw your sig, my dad has taught me everything i know. Even at 19 and in college, I go home and he takes me to school when working on my truck. Granted he has 40+ years of experience haha, Just wanted to say that what you're doing is awesome for your little guy

Thanks Yoda, my dad did the same thing too! The more I drive the more I like the coil combo fronts 600# and superflex rear. Great balance. I will load some weight in the back to get an idea this weekend.

I had my alignment done tonight. I used to work at Toyota of Bellevue and brought the Runner into my buddy to dial it in. Needless to say the front end was all out of whack. He worked at it for a while and was able to dial it back within factory specs.

What a difference in the way the vehicle rides! So much better! I did not run it down the highway yet but up to 55 on a side road and vibration seemed quite reduced maybe eliminated...more to come.

Can't wait for your review, how stiff is the rear? (That's kind of my main concern haha, i like a rougher ride.) Excited to hear how they handle with weight.

Vibration Update

I think one of the most disheartening things that can happen is you drop a bunch of money on a good lift, wheels and tires then end up with vibration. You know it can happen when you start the project and you just think...not me.

Possible suspects:
1. New wheels
2. New tires
3. Diff drop
4. Drive line angle
5. CV angles
6. U joints

First off I tried to really get a good feel where the vibration was coming from. The alignment helped a touch but not as much as I thought. I could feel it in the steering wheel and accelerator pedal. I Diagnosed likely the front end. I started with a re-balance of the tires. They balanced with a lug style adapter and it seemed to smooth out the ride but make the vibration more pronounced.

My next thought was perhaps with all the talk about diff drops good/bad that is was possible it could cause a vibration. I pulled out the spacers and put in the old bolts and gave it try. This made things worse. The good thing about getting worse is it let me know that the vibration was likely a front cv joint issue.

Looking at the 4Runner I was noticing that the front sat even with the rear. Running the Superflex rear coils I should be seeing a rake of around 3/4 of an inch and it was not there. When Toytec ships their coil overs they are set at around 3 inches of lift. I went back to my original rough measurements before the lift and measured again to check how much lift I had achieved. Front and rear lift was the same. Time to adjust!

I think one of the single best decisions I made was going with fully adjustable coil over. I pulled out the spanner wrenches supplied with the lift and dropped the adjustment collar by 1/4 of an inch and re-installed the diff drop. This took care of the vibration.

Hind sight:

I should have installed the lift and driven on the stock wheels and tires first. I did not drive home on the new wheels and tires before the lift since they were rubbing. In the excitement of lifting I put the tires on before then test drove it. I would have saved time chasing down the vibration knowing the wheels and tires were G2G. I am amazed that adjusting a 1/4 of an inch made such a dramatic change. Also, diff drops do make a change that I could feel in vibration.

ok well that helps me a lot because i have been on the fence about this lift for a while now and i think i am gonna do it. look killer man. and at least i know what to do if i get some weird vibration lol

You will be happy with the kit. Great quality and I continue to be impressed with the ride quality.

How does it do with weight in the back? Is the rack less noticeable? I have about 100-150lbs of stuff in the back of my runner at almost all times. I like the idea of the superflex coils, but not the rake it brings with it :/

sweet i cant wait to get it. I was looking at what it is gonna cost me to make an adjustable panhard and looks like it is only gonna be about 80 bucks for the parts and some time on my buddies welder.

looks good though man

Hey Yoda,

I loaded up 250# is the cargo area this morning. It dropped the rear 1/2 inch. With where I have my coilovers set from top of the tire to bottom of the flares it was 8 inches front and rear. I had no time to drive around as work owns my arse right now. On Toytec's site they have specs on how much drop with different weights. My test confirmed there specs fwiw. The more I see the 1/2 rake the more I like it. Miles better than ol' droopy butt! Truck is riding better all the time. Not soft, more like solid.

Ha ha mine has droopy butt syndrome :( hate it but wasnt gonna spend 200 on spring when a lift will fix this. Lol glad to know it will hand the weight decently

i'm looking at doing this same lift. it looks great! i was wondering what option you chose for the rear shocks. did you go with the normal 5125 bilsteins or did you get the longer option?? i wasn't sure if you could use the regular 5125 with the superflex coils.

also, did you have to get the extended rear brake lines toytec offers??

i'm getting ready to pull the trigger on all of this stuff and i need to figure out all the little details!

I went with the "superflex" shocks. The 5125 are about an inch shorter than the longer ones even with the adapter. So you would be better off with the longer ones and you would get the full potential out of the coils.

As far as the brake lines if you have the money, GET THEM. Just reduces the chance of them snapping or breaking from too much stress. Just my opinion.

BTW on a side note:

MY LIFT SHIPPED TODAY!!! Excitement building up now horribly!!!

Thanks! i think that's what i'll do. the brake lines are only $70 which isn't much when you consider the total amount i'm gonna be spending anyway.

are you going to get longer rear bump stops?? i don't even know where to get something like that.

That I something that I will be looking into after I test flex out the axle. More than likely I will be getting some because the compressed length of the shocks are not he same as the 5125 or others that go with the 3 in coils

Something like this would be needed though (this is what comes with the Sonoran steel 1.2):

Daystar Comp Style Bumpstops

I went with the 5125 shock option. Toytec said I could go with either. Reason for me was the extra travel was not that big of deal and I wanted the top mount adapters that come with the 5125's in case I ever want to go with a different shock in the rear it would give me more options given the top mount conversion.

That is a fair reason. Hen I go with something else for shock it will be moving to the outboard position honestly.

How are the 5125's doing anyway. I almost went that route so I am just wondering your experience with them.

I almost went with that option. Definitely would love to hear how they Do after you put then through the motions.
