I was trying to fix some paint scratches, and I screwed up

So I have a black 2013 T4R, and I have acquired some door dings. Also I'm pretty sure some kid keyed my car (there's a 2 inch deep scratch on the side of the hood).

I bought some touch up paint from the dealership, and he said to put the paint on and then clear coat after the paint dries. I did that, and now it looks gummy, and I can tell immediately where the touch up paint is, and it looks like glue on top of it. It is bugging me to no end. I am going to take it to Toyota and get them to fix it (I tend to screw up fix it tasks that require great attention to detail).

Unless anyone has any other ideas? Hopefully this isn't too expensive to fix, it's only on two areas by the door handles about the size of a dime, but I'm pretty obsessive about these things and have to get it sorted out.

Google paint touch up. There are many how to's on YouTube and other forums. If the paint didn't cure it was old or bad. Usually you are supposed to wet sand and then compound polish the new paint before you clear coat. You have to get very high grit sand paper from a body supply place or off the internet.

Since you have a fairly new vehicle I would go to a body shop and leave Toyota out of the loop. They will charge twice as much as a good body shop.

Not off hand, but I did go to a body shop... What they told me was, those markers that Toyota sells aren't very good for most scratches, just certain types, because of the way the tip is shaped it is meant to fill in narrow and deep scratches, anything else and it makes a blemish.

Long story short I will pay to get it fixed. Work like this is not my cup of tea so in this case I'll leave it to a pro.

I've used the touch-up paint for a chip on the hood and now above the passenger front fender.and the driver side rear passenger door (very bad design for debris to hit the paint on the door as the vehicle curves out). The tip is useless so I also use something like a toothpick to get the paint into the little chip. I don't put the clear coat on top because these chips are so small and, as you mention, the appearance isn't all that great. It actually blends better without the clear coat IMO.

Try a dental tool.

Much more precise and holds a very small amount of paint filling scratches. I have had very good success with this method.
