LOL, i know some people will think this is ridiculous, but i think its going to be fun. I've been chewing on adding lights for a long time and still dont know what i want. I found a deal on this Jabsco remote control spotlight on my local craigslist for $75 bucks (they retail for around 550-600!) so i said what the hell and got it. Its a marine spotlight intended to be mounted on the bow or cockpit of a boat, but who cares. It moves up, down, left and right and has a spot and flood beam, though flood is'nt very floody.
how it looked when i got it:
obviously that base is not going to fit anywhere, so i ditched it and made a stubby post for it and welded that to front of my rack, all the wiring runs down through the post and and into the rack (see: PITA!!!). also the control box you see literally got cut to pieces to free the switch housings so i could put them elsewhere and lose that giant box.
i wanted a clean install so i gutted the interior and took the opportunity to stick on some sound deadening stuff and clean the carpet and headliner really good.
drilled a hole in the roof under the roof rack rail for the wiring harness:
and made a hole above it in the rail:
drilled the end-cap for a super clean install:
fed the wires down through it all and into the truck:
next up was the wiring and cobbling the jabsco switch bodies onto/into the backs of the two knock-outs you see missing, this took forever.
wiring done, knock-outs turned switches installed:
the light: i cut the hell out of the rack and welded on some new stuff, the recess lets the light rotate 370 degrees lock to lock, the up and down travel is slightly limited but still plenty for what you can see from inside the truck. gotta come up with a new fairing of some type now with a big ole hole in it.
