Don't let the insurance company take advantage of you, especially because you're a minor. At the end of the day, the insurance company's game is to pay out a little as possible to keep profits up. Be polite when dealing with them, but stand your ground.

The $2700 is what my insurance is wanting to give me for the repairs. It's at the body shop now. If the collision center comes back with a higher quote, they may total it depending how much higher it is. If they do, I won't take a penny less than $5700 unless they let me keep the truck. Then I may take around $5k.

Which picture are you referring to?

EDIT: I see it now. It was already damaged. I bought it like that. There's a fairly deep ding the size of a bullet hole in the side from the previous owners not being very careful while transporting and trailer. Not sure how it got dented there by a trailer, but it's the story they gave me when I bought it. Haha

Good old sturdy runners. Nice solid steel bumpers. Having the hitch helped out alto too! Don't let the grimy insurance company get their hands on it. It's fine. And fixable

This thread just reminds me that I need to get my tow hitch back on, even though I have no plans to tow anything. Just mangled that GMC.

$2,700 should not total it. Mine was hit last month and my total repair bill was $2,719. The adjuster said that was "no where near close to 80% of the vehicle value," (80% being the max they will pay before totaling).

It looks like I was hit quite a bit harder than you and I ended up with no frame damage whatsoever. Thankfully the 4Runner is heavy enough that the hit did not cause me to roll forward, so I never touched the car in front of me.

Now it's all repaired and good as new. Life goes on.

The other insurance company immediately admitted liability for the accident, which is almost always the case when you get rear-ended. The other insurance company wanted to use aftermarket parts, but my insurance company insisted on OEM. Make sure you do the same if you're not going with a different bumper.

If there isn't frame damage to the back, I'm going to be extremely surprised. My Ranger got rear-ended from a stop at 45 and it was a solid foot and a half shorter. My 4runner's frame crunched a good bit when I took out a tree at 30 and flipped it. If you have it with you, pop underneath and run your hand along the frame, you should be able to feel if there's any kinks in it, but nothings conclusive until it gets put on the frame table and measured against factory specs.

I was gonna mention your rear quarter panels too.... looks like the bumper pushed up and probably added some damage. I'm no rocket scientist but i'd be including that in the damage estimate as well.

Got an estimate from Toyota yesterday. $3100. But I have no frame damage!

I was kind of hoping to repair this myself, and get ARB and CBI bumpers, but I'm not sure what the insurance company will do.

If the adjustor gave a quote of $2700. Can I expect to get a check of this amount or something close? Or will it go to the body shop who does the repairs? Anyone know?

Even if I don't get aftermarket bumpers, I was hoping to do the work myself.

If you own the truck outright, you should just get a check from the ins. company. they don't care who you use to repair the vehicle, or if you even repair it at all.

If you still owe money on it, then its a different story. In those cases, usually you HAVE to have the vehicle repaired at a "certified" repair center.

You should have the option of taking a check. Reason being, you could choose not to repair it, but the value of your truck has been permanently reduced by that amount or more. Or you could use the money to buy an aftermarket bumper.

The new chrome Toyota rear bumper cost a little over $700. I had the option to go aftermarket, but I don't like any of the aftermarket rear bumpers, so I went back to OEM.
