ICON Delta Joint Users - Chime In Here

Anyone have dust caps on the delta joint? I purchased dust caps with mine and since it comes with 3m tape I didn’t think it would require a force fit. It’s like the inner ring of the dust cap is a press fit and I don’t know want to f them up trying to tap them in since it’s painted aluminum.

Is it a press fit and 3m tape or do I have the wrong caps with the right part number?

did you install the zerk fittings, I know sounds like a dumb question but I was told the caps would not fit with zerk fittings?

There are also 4 rings of 3m tape, I wonder if we need to use two on each side. I'll try to grease, clean up the joints, and install my caps this weekend. I'll let you know

Thanks! No zerks as it would def not fit. I also thought about doubling the 3m rings but it still wouldn’t fit. Maybe with 3. Something doesn’t seem right here... I’ll pass a photo of how high it sits when I get a chance this evening.

Just greased my delta joints today because I think they're squeaking. I pumped about 4 times and noticed some grease leaking out the bottom. Is that enough? Too much?

PS, I replaced the "needle" zerk fitting on top with 6mm zerk fittings I found at Autozone and they fit, but seemed a little loose to thread on at first (maybe from crappy zerk replacements, idk). Also, I used "sta-lube" a moly-blend after reading many threads around here, found at Harbor Freight.

you're supposed to grease them every 3k miles. grease enough so excess comes out the bottom, then wipe the excess away. that's it

Well . . . this is my fault for not paying better attention . . . I fully realize that.

My delta joints have not been greased for 17,000 miles.

The shop that I thought was doing it, to whom that I had explained how to do it, never did it. They're squeaking a little bit but not too bad.

I tried to do it myself but the needle zerks are frozen up. I tried to replace with some auto zone zerks (side note: the auto zone people had never heard of a zero fitting) but they don't fit tightly enough to get grease down into the joint. Ugh, I'm probably going to have to replace them and pay better attention next time. I am impressed with how long they went without squeaking, however, and you're welcome for the stress-0testing data although YMMV.

Replaced a set of uni-balls with Deltas on the FJC (ICON aluminum UCA's) earlier this year. They are excellent and quiet. Will never go back to uni-ball configurations. Also use the same Sta-Lube Moly Graph referenced in another post at every 5K oil change. No issues.

Although Icon says they a greased, I feel like greasing them again just to make sure.

Not sure why multi-quote is not working.

IIRC bushings and bearing should be greased every 5k-10k depending on use and driving conditions... so every tire rotation or oil change. Obviously some people go longer, but that's their preference. It's not hard to do if you have a 21mm socket and wrench. Definitely grease if there's any squeaking. You will want to push enough grease to purge out some of the old grease from both the bushings and delta joint.

Been using Sta-Lube Moly Graph with no adverse effects so far. Use the same grease on drive shaft...
