I ran the setup for over a year and upgraded to a full Total Chaos setup. I have writeups on both on www.dirtroadtrip.com - go search there. The setup worked as advertised - but using the kit to full potential is going to be hard on OEM LCAs and the stock bushings/ball joints.

If you are willing to drop $1k per side on bypasses go ahead and get a more robust setup from TC with the option to run Fox/King/ADS. Buy once cry once... Wish I had...
 
I'm using there LCA skid but haven't done the hoop and secondary bypass yet, but here's how they look, minus the hoop and bypass shock, only reason I got them was they were In stock locally and were priced fair I have zero intention of running bypass shocks as my off roading doesn't involve much hi speed activities other than driving on the highway home from the trail.

Thanks for the info and the picture. I don't plan on doing much if any high speed off roading but I'm very interested in adding some degree of extra protection with the skids because Colorado tends to be very rocky and the price is reasonable. I also liked the option of adding the additional bypass shock if theirs any real benefit to it. I am very happy with my current set up, but as many of you know the build and upgrade bug gets ya!

If you're not doing anything high speed, I wouldn't. If anything, I'd upgrade to a higher quality coilover.
 
I wheel my truck in rocky conditions and have never hit a front lower control arm. I'm not saying it is not possible (anything is), but so far I have not encountered a need for them.

Just think about it for a minute. You are going to have much bigger problems than the front arms if you approach an obstacle in such a way that they hit . If your tires are up on the high point (like they should be), then your front control arms will always clear.

I would not add the weight. loss of clearance... for almost no benefit. bypass shocks are completely unnecessary on a trail rig.
 
I got some for Christmas, was all happy until I realized they don't fit w kdss. Then I had to give them to my son with fj... Damn it. I wanted them because, I armored everything else, why not a arms
 
Eh, for 180.00 bucks and a little added protection and piece of mind, Ill just get the LCA skids. Like Tengu said, why not armor them too. Thanks for the advice!:thumb:
 
I just bought Joneseyyy's old set up from him. I still am waiting for my secondary shock to get built. I decided to go with Icon Omega Bypass as I already have the same shocks in the rear.

I mostly run my 4Runner in the Desert which is both trail situations but a lot of high speed desert runs. I also plan on a Baja trip later this year out to Mikes Sky Ranch.

I am very excited to get everything installed and will post everything on my build thread once completed along with feedback compared to the coil-over only set up........

Couldn't agree more. If there were LCA skids for KDSS I'd already have a set.
 
if you are looking for just a skid. this is not the right product to buy. At least, get aluminum for this location.

my install shop trimmed them to fit the kdss....
