ICON Stage 7

Two cents, I have the stage seven on my Tacoma and the ability to adjust the valve is a cool deal, is it worth it? That's up to you, I have had mine installed for around eight months & I mess with different settings & have been satisfied, now the wife's trail is in need of some worthy suspension & I am debating on going this direction... It would be cool to obviously driving someone else's vehicle that has the same set up to see if the CDC valves work well on the 4Runner.

I personally didnt need them but having the adjustability and being able to tune my ride quality is worth it... Will I ever use it going off road??? I dont think so ... its nicely put together suspension system.

But with the price of the group buy and having the adjustability was worth the extra coin.

Still waiting on my ICON 7 set up to be delivered. Kinda hoping to see its there when I get home from vacation this weekend.
 
For the price of a stage 7, please educate yourself on suspension systems and shop around based on how you plan to use the 4Runner. For that amount of money, there are many, many high quality suspension options out there, and many of the high-dollar billet aluminum components that Icon offers are made in steel by others with no degradation at all in performance (rear upper and lower trailing arms, front upper control arms, for example). Also, consider the full cost of ownership of Icon shock versus others (including rebuild costs).
 
Opinions are a dime a dozen. You are going to get a whole slew of them. Most of them with no experience with the kit. The Stage 7 is a great piece of kit very high quality. You will have full adjustability of the system. The rear weight can be a concern, you may be able to get custom spring weights to match your needs now instead of later in the rear. Of course you will have more maintenance conerns with this system. Plan on having to replace some parts at 25k or sooner with hard use. There are comparable systems out there but none that are so very complete. You woukd have to piece it together yourself. You will be near the limit at what you can do with the stock suspension without moving ti a LT suspension. The front alone will cost you more than what you are looking at for the whole kit from experience of a TC system on my FJ. The ride is excellent and handles well from the trucks that I have driven. I myself have most of the stage 7 parts except for the shocks as I am not willing to part woth the trd pro suspension right now. There is always a good aftermarket to recoup some of your costs down the road. Just dont get rid of parts, maintain your icons , you can wax and us anti rust sprays. If you can get the special coatig do so it helps immensly. Upgradability is still there as you can add jounce type shocks front and rear as well as even going to a two shock front if wanted.

If you have the cash and have wanted it and are able to get at a good price why wait? it is your decision alone, I wont pretend that the good idea fairy has hit me sometimes and I was like what did I do. But hasnt been woth the ICON parts nor dealer with them after the purchase for maintainence items and rebuild kits. I woukd say get the best discount possible. A. Get it all now B. Set yourself in a position to be able to uograde other key parts to the stage 7 but note on installation overall it will be cheaper up front to do it all at once. The basic installation and hopefully only one alignment. Add the jounce shocks later I wish I never sold mine. I am going to pick up another pair here in the future! Good luck I hope this helps.

As Intruder said, and [MENTION=120150]TotalAutomotiveLV[/MENTION] will tell you if you call, you can piece together some of the parts to find steel or alloy tube arms instead of some of the aluminum billet pieces and save a lot. The UCA can be tubular, from Cambridge or others.

This part# below may be a good tubular UCA. I didn't look closely at it. It needs to have adjustment at the frame for alignment. Suspension and alignment is not my forte'. I only know what I've read here and on various dealer websites. Ask TALV.
From the Stage 7 list at TALV:
58451 (QTY – 1) – Tubular Uniball Upper Control Arm Kit

I believe you need the rear links and pan rod bar if you lift it. Try to find steel tube substitutes for these parts:
54000 (QTY – 1) – Billet Aluminum Lower Rear Trailing Arm Kit
54100 (QTY – 1) – Billet Aluminum Upper Rear Trailing Arm Kit
54200 (QTY – 1) – Rear Adjustable Pan-Rod Bar Kit
If Total Automotive LV can install and align these parts, I'll probably get everything from him when I'm ready for the suspension system.

yes AA will send you coupon codes but when you try to use it it says that you can't use on certain items. So what's the point of sending them out when you can't use the coupons codes on the things that you need.
 
I have been looking, and cannot find any official up/down travel specs on this kit. Does anybody know what the official Icon answer is?

I thought that spending upwards of $3~4k in the suspension that squeaking that makes your off-road rig sound like a 1970's rust bucket Ford was just a feature!

Yeah, I need to clean and lube the heims on the 4Runner again, still iffy if I want to get booties for them...
