Edit: After reading all the comments, it seemed like several people tried to tell the Taco owner this was a bad idea but he insisted on doing it like that anyway, so they stood back and recorded the carnage.

So he's claiming he somehow managed to break a u-bolt on that unimpressive trail which caused the entire rear end of the truck to fall to pieces and then all tier 1 ****ery that followed was totally not his fault.

Guy then says that he is not selling said Taco two days before video shows up on instagram of him ineptly trying to recover said Taco despite the warnings of onlookers who have told him that the rear axle has become divorced from the frame.

Stupidity ensues and truck winds up in pieces.

Guy gets savaged on interwebs forums and social media and claims that this can be fixed easily when said vehicle is clearly totaled, also claims that something as innocent as a rock strike caused all that chaos.

I was reading this thread when the instagram got posed. Thread got locked, but this video is ALL OVER 4x4 forums at this point, so it's unsure why they're bothering to bury it at this point.

It frustrates me that despite having the guy who vandalized my vehicle on camera, i've been fighting insurance on full coverage of the vehicle, and then there's this guy who clearly damages his vehicle and he's saying that insurance is covering it.

There's been a few posts here like that lately too. Guys driving their brand new 5th Gens into hood-deep water and then having insurance replace the truck when it gets destroyed.

I've luckily never had to test insurance like that but I never would've thought it would cover self inflicted nonsense.

I'm not a fancy city boy automobile insurance adjuster with a degree in cosmetology but it strikes me as odd that

-guy puts up truck for sale admitting he got in over his head on buying crap
-guy goes silent
-guy suddenly says truck is no longer for sale around the time video was taken
-video surfaces of alleged vehicle being seriously molested and effectively destroyed to the protestations of everyone around him
-guy blames everyone but himself and claims insurance will take care of everything, says that u-bolt broke/came loose on his "lightly off roaded" Taco and everyone took advantage of him to destroy his truck on the trails for interwebs lolz
-threads start getting scrubbed from the forums

I have a confession to make. I paid a mobile mechanic about $250 to install my Bilstein 5100s and FJ springs in my garage. The reason I did it was because A) I'd never done it before and B) the price was pretty cheap. He did the job in my garage at home and was done before noon. Perfect! I drove the truck to an alignment shop immediately thereafter and all was well... At least for a few months until one of the lower rear shock bolts backed out on its own while I was driving down the road. The shock popped out and started rubbing against the inside of the tire. By sheer coincidence it happened within 100 yards of an auto repair business. I limped the truck in and paid the man 50 bucks to jack the truck up, pop the shock back on the axle and put a new bolt in. What if this happened while I was out on a trail? I don't know. Hopefully nothing as bad as what happened to the Tacoma guy but I'm glad I never had to find out and risk getting savaged by an Internet horde.... Sometimes we don't always think clearly when we're in a crisis and the adrenaline is pumping. I'd be inclined to show a little sympathy.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being inexperienced or not knowing what you're doing, we all have to start somewhere and that's why you go wheeling with people who DO know, that's how you learn. You won't get savaged for honest mistakes.

The problem here is that this guy refused to listen to those people and insisted on doing things his way. Yet now that he's paying for his mistakes, he's lashing out and blaming those same people who were trying to help him.

We all make very bad choices on occasion, but owning up to it and using it as a learning/ teaching experience is much better than blaming everyone around you. The reason this guy is getting destroyed is because he's continuing to make poor choices after the fact.

I just flipped through that thread and a lot of my issues with it are his lack of personal responsibility. We've all done some stupid sh*t in our lives. Some of us more than others. And completely agree that these days those choices can get significantly magnified due to social media. But the thing we all need to do is take responsibility for it and not blame others. Just another far too common issue we see today.

He puts all of the blame on "dumbasses" who gave him bad advice as well as dismisses any of the damage since insurance is going to foot most of the bill. Just looking at the video, there were plenty of huge signs from the second that they stared pulling to long before the catastrophic end that screamed that things weren't going to end well. Stepping up and saying I made some seriously stupid decisions would go a long way. But that's just my opinion.
