IDK anymore about Toyota

now i have had my first 4runner now for almost a year, i do like it very much but the only complaint i have with Toyota is the entertainment hub they use, it to me is absolutely horrible and out dated compared to what all other vehicles have in them. some of the stuff it has makes no sense to me at all like when you get a text, you can't read it while the 4runner is moving, but, when you respond with a quick message you can read them. i like that there was Bing in the apps and you could search, find it and send it to the navigation, can't do that no more. the reason i was thinking about this because i got in my fathers 2015 Jeep and the hub in was really nice you can start the thing with his cellphone. does anybody else think this way?

If you want to be entertained and watch movies, sit in your recliner in your den and watch TV on your home entertainment system. If you want a reliable go anywhere truck you can depend on that focuses on what is important in a vehicle... aka (gets you where you need to go safely and without delays due to breakdown) drive a 4Runner.

Heh not sure what you mean about "anymore" with Toyota, they have always been this way. My 2004 taco came with a cd player that had a tape deck in it! In 2004 even CDs were fading and being replaced by mp4 players, tape had been dead for a decade before that!

I agree that it might be nice if Toyota was the great vehicle that it is WITH a cutting edge electronics package, the truth is, as you point out, your choice is cutting edge electronics in a jeep, but transmission failure at 30k, or somewhat dated electronics in a Toyota, but a vehicle that will take you to faraway places and back without worrying about the next mechanical failure.

I'll take the vehicle quality over the entertainment system quality any day!

I didn't say I didn't like the 4runner, what I was trying to say was for $40000 you'd think you'd get a better hub in a vehicle. I mean you can press the talk icon on the steering wheel and tell it what you want, so why can't you send a frickin text that why too. ThE only way you can add a time is if it's in your navigation then you can pick #1 will arrive in proximately... also I had my 4runner for 3 months when the battery completely died, towed it in and they said they could even charge it it was at 0, so they replaced the battery, less then a week later same thing happened and they asked about some thing and I said I keep the keys in it, no in the ignition but in the vehicle and they said that's the reason why it was probably dying because with the keys inside the 4runner the chip in the keys is telling the 4runner that I'm sitting inside so be on the ready to start. Who in the hell doesn't leave keys in you vehicle in the garage. Made no sense.

I left the keys in my 4runner every night when it was parked in the garage. While not the norm, some people do it. It was nice because the keys were always where I needed them.

I don't leave the keys to anything in them. I have a 14 Jetta, 97 240 SX, 99 4Runner, Scag Freedom Z, a cruddy Craftsman mower, etc...NONE of them have the keys in them. All the keys for autos are on my and my wife's keychains that are either in our pockets, in the vehicles while in operation, or in the bedroom at night. The mowers are on hooks in the house. Keeping keys in a vehicle is for movies where people steal cars way too easily.

This is overall the truth and normally the case, but I have a friend who just hit 200k on his jeep that just changed my viewpoint of them if you baby them like we do our 4runners.

Or maybe that's just the 'old' gen, which he had.

The AMC engines are pretty bulletproof. But the more Chrysler thats in them, the worse they are.

I NEVER get out of my truck without taking the keys. I even take them out and put them in my pocket when I’m gassing up…and I pay at the pump. For that matter, our doors are always dead-bolted and the garage doors down when we are inside….. and we live on a farm ¼ mile off the highway.

As for the "cutting edge entertainment hub,” personally, I just moved up from a 2001 Tahoe to my 2015 SR-5.

This package seems pretty “cutting edge” to me. “Wow, I can call home with the phone in the console and by just saying “Call Home!” And it plays my iPod music over the sound system without a after-market modulator plugged into the cigarette lighter! Damn! :music:

A lot of people have a hard enough time simply driving their vehicles as it is, let alone with all the added tech inside cars to distract people.
Do not get me wrong, I like technology in vehicles, but the more you give people, the more they are going to focus on the tech instead of driving.

My 1993 (bought new by my dad in 1992) rolled over 227K not too long ago. It could use a tune up and fluid changes, but still runs. Nothing else works tough. Windows won't move, headliner is falling, radio won't turn on, it leaks when it rains and the gate lifts have failed again. I'm sure there are more things wrong with it.

I agree that the 4Runner isn't up to date on its electronics compared to some other vehicles but we don't buy 4Runner's because were looking for a plush interior and Cadillac ride. That's where the LC and Lexus come into play. Toyota is smart in that aspect. I'd love to get a Sequoia for the family but I think the interior looks like shit so a LC is in the near future.

And as for leaving your keys in the car……I mean if you live in a gated community and your truck is parked inside a garage then that's a big maybe but its just as easy to carry those things inside for the added safety. You must live in an extremely trustworthy area to do that.
