Start engine, idles around 2700.
After driving 2-3miles it settles down to 1700.

What do you think?

Is 1700 correct idle speed?

thanks

Yes, that's normal. It's part of the EPA's guidelines to reduce automotive pollution. A warm engine emitts less pollution "running lean", versus a cold engine "running rich" that uses more fuel and less air to keep things lubricated, until the oil can get warm and take over. It's normal, and you're at the normal rpm's for both cold and warm idles. I'm not sure when it became law, sometime in the early 90's maybe? But my 95' LS400 would do it too. Cold start at 1,650 rpm, then settle down to 500-600 rpm when warm.

Thanks nc211...

Is it bad to drive, right away after start-up? With my 88 & 94 the idle would settle down within a few minutes.

what oil you running? I live in Colorado= 0W30...right? Better weight in cold start-up's
