Idle Issue

It likes to do this on me at times.. to explain a bit, i'll start it, the RPM's will go between 700 and 400, and keep bouncing back and forth, back and forth. When it does this, the exhaust smells really rich of fuel.
It doesn't sputter or stall or anything when I step on the gas, it's nice and smooth, makes lots of power.
It only does this on a warm start, and not every time. If i put it in N and feed it some gas, sometimes it idles like normal. But if I drop it down into R or D when it is doing this, it stalls.
It runs kind of like an older big block V8 Does..

I was thinking maybe.. Fuel filter needs changing (it's almost a year old) Vacuum Leak, Failing Ignition Coil, or idle just needs to be adjusted? A couple Fuel Injector clips are broken and won't stay clipped on, could that be the problem?

It's been raining A LOT here in the Northwest lately, Engine was Rebuilt about 21,000 ago, new radiator installed with new engine.

This is really annoying me, and I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks a lot guys.

If your plugs for your injectors are broken and you're getting an intermittent signal to them then that could definitely be the cause.

I would check those plugs and make sure they're staying seated, if not then replace them. If that doesn't fix it then I would go through all of your vacuum lines and make sure you don't have a leak. Then check your throttle body and make sure that it's clean and you don't have any build up that is causing your throttle body to close at different positions each time it is closed.

Grab a FSM and do some checking on your sensors and coil and make sure they're within spec.

What motor is this?

UPDATE: gave it a tune up, now it runs like a dream. Guess me and my buddy left off a lot of lines, clamps, etc off the plenum.. looks like we're not going back in there. Now I can move on to more important matters..
