Recently, I've been getting a heavy metallic rattle from the front end. Well, this eve I found out that it is the Idler Arm assembly.
I removed the cap with nut and fluted washer. There is an abundant amount of play that is showing up across all rods.
Apparently, there is supposed to be a sleeve or washer or gasket or ? I know this, due to there being a pile of plastic bits at the base and crown of the IA housing.--the Haynes manual for the 94 T4R leaves much to be desired--
1. What is this called and is it only available at the dealership?
2. Is this a common occurance to a vehicle with only 108K mi?
3. Will I have to replace the whole unit?
4. Is there supposed to be a lube bladder at the base or is the skirt that is there complete?
5. Any tricks to this repair that will make things easier?
6. Are there any aftermarket upgraded products that would suit better longterm?
IMHO, using plastic in a part that is bound to have thousands of sharp shock impacts seems dumb. Nevermind the aspect that this one was on a 4WD.
Why isn't there a lube zert/fitting involved here?
