I have an 88 4runner and my idle lopes and when I push on the breaks and idles anywhere between 1000rpms to 1600rpms, any ideas what it might be and how to fix it?

thanks for the help, but i have a question does cutting that lead fix the idle speed too? I've adjust the TB screw and it lowers some but not down to the 800 where it's suppose to be, oh I have the V6 by the way......

I took it to the dealer in my town for front end work, and they noticed and when I was getting in to leave, and adjusted it for me the first time. Ran fine for the rest of the spring the parked it for a month or so untill my cars super charger went out. So I started driving it again and it was back tried turning the screw down, it worked for a few days then it wouldn't start very well so I had to turn it back up a bit......

I guess I assumed you had the 22re as it is so well known for this problem...

I honestly don't know anything about the 3.0 at all. I would assume they used the same fuel cutoff as they did with the 22re, but you'd have to use a testlight to be sure.

Cutting the wire didn't fix the idle, but on days when it goes up high it just stays there without fluctuating. It isn't nearly as annoying as it was.

How long has it been since you cleaned the throttle body?

I would like to say that I have, but I haven't at all...thinking it might be the timimg chain also, it has streched and now makes the tell tale rattling noise, was going to replace it along with the gears once it warms up seing that I don't have a garage to work on it. kind cold out to be wrenching on engines outside.

Mine jumped a tooth when I waited too long. Luckily it only jumped one tooth, you should replace it while you can. Im glad I did
