I started my 4runner this morning and once it warmed up it started to idle low and rough, its idlin around 500rpm. I am not sure i i shoyld just turn up the idle a little bit or a problem with the egr valve. Anyone know how to test the erg valve and system to make sure its functioning properly

hook up a hand vacuum pump to the egr and apply vacuum. it should run even worse if it's not faulty.

I'd also check for other vacuum leaks.

When's the last time you gave her any love and affection? Air filter, plugs, wires, fuel filter, O2 sensor and a can of Sea Foam split between the crankcase and PCV and gas tank, oil change. Do all that, check the timing and I bet you have an awesome running car.

I recently replaced the spark plugs and filter, I just ordered a new cap, rotor, and wires. As far as sea foam, i am kind of weary about it because I have heard of it being pretty rough on engine seals. I have no idea when the oxygen sensors were replaced because I have only had the car for 6 months.

Hi KP- I have a similar problem with my 89 3.0 ! I have just about given up on mine. I believe it is a vacum leak but can't find it. Replaced several different things, sensors, thermostats with no results. If you search your problem on this site you will find quite a few guys having similar issues with all differ rant results :( Good luck!

o2 sensor..

Did you order OEM replacement?
I ordered a Denso for the replacement sensor.

By the way, after replacing it, not only did the engine smooth out considerably, but mpg got better. It runs so smooth(and quiet) now, hard to tell it's running in traffic. Wished I'd done it a long time ago.
regards
