Hey everyone,

Been a member here for a while now, just not in this particular area of the forum. I have been hanging out in the 5th gen section for the last year or so.

Anyways, I did own a 5th gen 4Runner Trail Edition, I added quite a bit of extras, I've posted pics, video's and what not. I'm sure many of you have seen this 4runner on here from time to time.

On Tuesday 7/5/2011 I sold it. Like many others, payments were quite high. That same day I picked up a used 2007 V8 4Runner 4x4 in White with approx. 56k miles bone stock.


July 5th, 2011 - Bought Used 07' 4Runner V8 4x4 white 56k miles
July 12th, 2011 - Installed King Remote Resi Coilovers up front.
July 13th, 2011 - New wheels and tires, 16x8 ATX Mojave 4.5"BS, 275/70R16 BFG All Terrains
- Also installed rear Sway-Away 1.5" Lift Coils & Rear Remote Resi King Shocks
- Also swapped out all 4 disk rotors with PowerSlot Rotors and new pads.
July 14th, 2011 - Replaced Air filter with an AFE Pro Dry S Filter
July 15th, 2011 - Ordered a Roof Rack and Silders from Perkins Performance, 5-6 week lead time.
Aug 8th-15th, 2011 Stayed at Toyota for new Fuel Pulsation Dampener, Fuel Pump, Gas Pedal recall, Exhaust TSB
Aug 17th, 2011 - Magnaflow 12586 installed,
- Shock Tabs welded to frame for Shock Reservoirs F/R
Aug 31st, 2011 - Installed Scion T1814 Radio
Sept 8th, 2011 - Installed Perkins Performance Roof Rack
Sept 10th, 2011 - Installed Perkins Performance Rock Sliders


I might crank up the coilovers a little bit more, and also get some Upper Control arms before I get it aligned.
I didn't bother taking any stock pics, everyone has seen a stock one at least once in their life. Also didn't take any installation pictures, Sorry. These are all I have as of today 7/18/11. I need to go out and get her dirty now!! :thumb3:

I did remove the OEM Windshield Washer Reservoir to fit the King Remote Resi. I will probably just make a small reservoir out of PVC and stick it in front of the airbox with the washer pumps.

^^ Haha, I've depleted all my $$$, so a SAS or LT is unlikely anytime soon. No, I picked up these from DownSouth Motorsports. During my research, I came across who has Josh's old Kings, but cannot remember who it was.

Very nice iDriv! How do you like the rear SAWs? I am about to install the same set as well...except mine are red (not sure if there is a difference). Mine are advertised as 1.5" too but I've heard they provide ~2" rear lift and have a softer ride than the 895s. However, it looks like your rear may have been lifted more than 2". What are your rear measurements?

Love the look of your new 4th Gen! I have two close friends with Taco's who run the King's. I was just over working on one of their trucks last weekend. We fabbed up a custom mounting bracket for the resi's. His truck is disgusting, it's basically a mini trophy truck...I love your runner, can't wait to see some more mods.

You're right about hardly anyone running Kings in their 4Runners, hard to do research when no one has them. I took a gamble, was gonna either be this, OW again or Icon. Never had King products so figured they were worth a shot and DSM is half hour away, if I ever need anything re-valved.
The ride is a bit smoother than the OW on the road. My OW setup was geared to handle the extra weight of bumpers/skids, etc. Of course after a while I realized I wouldn't really want all that extra weight on my daily driver so the suspension was kinda too stiff for daily driving on So-Cal roads. These have lower spring rates and has the stock valving for the FJ Cruisers. So far its really nice on road, better than the stock setup. Cant wait to see how it handles off road.

Mine are red too. I didn't take any measurements yet but I'll get the center of hub to fender distance for you later today. I read that these are 12% stiffer than stock and the 895's are 33% stiffer than stock. I figured these Sway-Away's would better match the Rear King shocks valving.

Well, I loved what my 5th gen looked like, that thing was Sweet!! But I like how the 4th gen body is not as wide for those narrow desert trails I'm always on. I love the V8, tons of power. I like being able to get up to speed in the blink of an eye.

I guess I'll have to move over here and follow this build now. I enjoyed your 5G., I'm sure I'll like this build as well!

Oh ok, thanks man. That makes more sense. I must be crazy...I thought I saw a picture of a blue rear coil but see now that there wasn't. Also, it looks like you may be right at 1.5-2" lift in the rear as I see that you have the 275/70/16 and not 17s. Wow, guess that what happens when browsing the forums at work

Just measured the driver side rear in the garage. Its approx. 23.5" from center of wheel to fender.

Thanks Nathan, my build thread was in serious need of an update which I just did tonight. Lots of new pics if you wanna check it out. Does the new TE owner plan on 4wheeling it? Maybe we'll catch it on one of our runs up here. If you're interested, we do 120 runs down in socal too. Just got back from a Big Bear run last week.

Figured I would update my thread.

On 8/9/11 I dropped it off at Toyota of Escondido to get the knocking noise that I heard at cold idle checked. Picked it up 8/15/11. They performed the Recall for the gas pedal, determined the knock to be caused by a bad Fuel Pulsation Dampener. Also the Fuel pump wasn't holding pressure and got the TSB done for the Cats due to sulfur smells.

No more knocking noises, truck runs great, couldn't be happier. The fuel pump, Recall and TSB were all covered under warranty. I just paid for the Pulsation dampener and the labor.

On 8/17/11, had a Magnaflow 12586 installed, same muffler I had on my 2010 4Runner TE. Right after that was done I drove south to the SDTruckshop in Miramar and had them weld on tabs for the shock remote reservoirs both front and rear.

I love the sound my 4Runner makes now. It's just right, fairly quiet for cruising, but a little louder when hitting the gas and there is no drone at all.



I also just won a Scion T1814 radio on Ebay for $59.99, supposedly new.

I also won a Scion T1808 for $50 after shipping. Also purchased the special USB cable. I will either give this to my buddy or resell it assuming the T1814 works.

I just want to say thanks to all that have posted pics, info, instructions, etc. on these Scion radios. I've spent the last few days researching all I can so I don't have to take the dash apart twice. :thanks:

Its looking good man how you liking it so far? I am digging the color combo now those sliders need to come in so you can ditch the running boards. Mine is going to get a real lift as soon as my xreas blows up I am probably going to go OME lift again those Kings are pretty sexy though.
