IEMs (In Ear Monitors)...aka Ear buds for music thread

Hey all,

I just got into owning earbuds. Right now, i have two...Klipsch S4 and Sony MDR-EX500LP. Initially, i like the Sonys better and thought that the S4s were too bright and lack bass. Of course, being the neophyte that i am, i did not get a good seal on the S4. After burning both of them in, the S4s sounds much better...and with proper seal, bass in the S4 is very good. Sony is good in bass, but the upper range is lacking...seems like someone muffled the singer! :(

Anyway, with me now a fan of Klipsch sound, i just ordered X10i from them. The S4s are good, but somehow, the bass is not accurate to me (a bit boomy), and the upper/midrange seems not as precise. I got the X10i at a pretty good price ($218 with free shipping) from an authorized Klipsch dealer on Ebay.

I did look at Shure IEMs, but they are bulky. I like the technology on SE535, but the bulky IEMs may be irritating on my sensitive ears. (My ears hate weight or anything that stays there for a long time. The SE535 is over the ear type IEM.)

With IEMs, i want comfort and sound in equal doses. This is where i hope Klipsch X10i would deliver. More comments to follow on them...i get them this Thursday.

What are your experiences with IEMs??

Do you travel alot that $200 for headphones are worth it? Ever since i've started driving i've never needed to use headphones that often as i have my ipod hookup on the radio and i tend to be the driver on long trips now so the airplane and sometimes when im watching TV on my computer is the only time i ever need them. But to answer your question, im more a Bose full headphones guy, i tend to break the ear buds pretty quickly.
 
those aren't just headphones, they are in ear monitors. ya know when you see some big band on stage and they have those earpieces in? It's so you can hear yourself and the rest of the music clearly when you play live music.

Unless thai is using them for another purpose?
 
Well, for me, this is for relaxation purposes, both at home and walking (as in exercise). I like to hear the music clearly and these Klipsch are amazing at noise isolation. In addition, with my job, I have every other week off...so I often chill at local McDs in the morning to read the news and listen to music.
 
well if you're looking for in-ear monitors that's where you should get them or have any questions answered. That's why I was asking what you were using them for haha.
 
Here is a silly question, Why use IEM's over standard earbuds? The reason I ask is that I have always had a problem finding a decent pair of earbuds that fit in my freakish ears.

I have no idea...i thought that they were the same!! :shrug:

The Klipschs and Sony listed above are earbuds...but i see "professionals" call them IEMs. :shrug:
