If you had $9,000 for a Sporty Car...

I have a94 sc300 5 speed. for under $9,000 have an sc turbo'd.
Another vote for an e36 M3. Maintenance costs are not bad at all if you work on it yourself. In the 45k miles I've driven mine the only repair has been a $19 switch and under $100 for a water pump. Best car I've ever owned. It will make a hero out of a fool it handles so well. No slouch in a straight line either. It handed a show-ready Nova Super Sport 400 it's ass the other day. Best of all it doesn't stand out. Nobody really notices it. I like that. I don't want attention.
depends what you are looking for really. miatas are ok i suppose, but im about 6'2" and i fit better in a first gen MR2 than i do in a miata. they are pretty played out, imho, and theres cars with more room that are just as fast. wrx is ok, but also very played out.
i tend to like a lil older cars myself, so if i had the cash and wanted a rwd i would likely go with a toyota supra turbo, and if i wanted something small like a miata i would go with a second gen MR2 turbo. If i was to look for awd, i might look for a 1st gen celica alltrac, eclipse/talon awd turbo, etc. then theres always the class of things that i see in that range that are swapped or properly modified; im always looking out for things like the starion/conquest, 323gtx, etc. things like older subaru wagons with new wrx implants, corollas with s/c or 20v swaps, and the likes. i also like sleepers though.
but i would say toyota, i have seen some very nice supras and mr2's in that price range that are very quick and reliable. the second gen supra and the second gen mr2 both look great also, imho.

Scion tC. I drove one a really pushed it. It was also turbo charged, the little 2.4 in it was actually pretty fun. I wouldn't touch a stang with a 10 foot pole, never ever ever had good luck with ford. That's why I went Toyota

I was always partial to the older Acura Integras--just liked the styling, and can be built for a LOT less than $9000! I rebuilt the 1.8 in it, then replaced all the worn-out suspension bushings, added Ground Control coilovers, Tokico 5-way shocks, beefy new swaybars, and 205/40R17 Kumho's. It cornered so hard you didn't slide things across the cab...you LAUNCHED them! Hardly any roll when hammering it. Yeah, the wing looks tacky now, but I still think it flows with the lines of the car well, and it didn't weigh a thing (love carbon fiber!). I didn't care if it was the quickest thing out there, but I DID want it to handle the curves extremely well...and it did!
p.s. The dented fender was my own boo-boo when I was working on it--d-oh!

Sure did! And I had a lot of fun with it, too! What, you one of those that thinks once people hit 40, they're supposed to buy a Buick Landyacht, start drinking Ensure, and watch Lawrence Welk reruns for the rest of our lives? Put me on one of those bikes like yours, and I guarantee you I'll give you a run for your money down a curvy road. Age is just a number, friend.
