The new Armada isn't based on the Titan anymore, so I'm not sure if they still have rear diff issues. But yeah, I do remember reading about the undersized Titan rear diffs and failures.
My wife's and my Audi experience has been the most reliable set of vehicles we've ever owned, rivaling my 1995 4Runner and my 1986 FJ60.
My daily driver for the past 12 years has been an Audi A4 (3.2L naturally aspirated V6 with a 6 speed manual transmission). I special ordered it and picked it up Jan 2 2008. It has been well maintained and has had no outstanding issues.
My wife's daily driver was a 2008 A6 Avant (3.2L naturally aspirated V6 with a 6 speed automatic transmission) that we special ordered and picked up Jan 2 2008, until some distracted bozo ran a red light and T-boned her. Insurance totaled it and gave us 25% of purchase price with 120,000 miles in Jan 2017. We replaced that with an Audi Q5 (3.0L supercharged V6 with 6 speed automatic transmission). We have had zero issues with this vehicle either. It's been her daily driver ever since.
I sold my (never had an issue) 2010 Audi S5 (4.2L naturally aspirated with a 6 speed manual transmission) because I am no longer active in taking it to race tracks like Road America to see how fast I can turn a lap and that it was no longer a challenge to see 150+mph.
I replaced the S5 with the 2019 4Runner because I was looking to get back to my off-road ways.

I actually gave this some thought this morning...
08 or newer Land Cruiser or LX570
older LC or LX if i could find one with or near 100K on the clocks...
or
Plan B would be a nicely kept Tundra Crew Max.
Its SUV-ish enough in size, the 5.7 V-8 is the same as in the LC/LXs, 4WD, and if kept well enough can get me 1 Million Miles (que the Dr Evil music)
after owning several toyota products along with other makes...the Toyos just last longer, and work better...i dont need my vehicle to 'inspire' me...that's why i ride and race motorcycles, and travel to exotic lands and witnessed their sunrises and sunsets...:couch2:

Been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm thinking of getting rid of my '13 TE, I just can't deal with this POS 4.0.
I don't do any serious wheeling, it's more to use a camping vehicle and haul my dogs and mountain bikes. Would do "overlanding" (lol) trips, that mostly include long stretches of highway
First gen Sequoia, 05-07. What I really wanted in the first place, just ran out of patience looking for a good one(Thanks New England!) and got the 4Runner early this year. This time around I'll head down south to find a good one. I love the way the gen1 looks, esp modded. Interiors are nice with a quality feel, and ROOMY. I'm kinda "meh" on the 4.7L, but if I can find one that's had recent timing belt service, I can deal with it.
Also would consider a GX470, or a 100 Series if I could find a good one that wasn't stupid money.
GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon. Good size, cheap, reliable, easy to find. Plus, I LOVE the LS engines, I'd rather have an LS over anything Toyota makes.
GMT800 Suburban/Yukon XL. Same as above, just bigger. These things seem huge, but wheelbase in only 2.4" longer than a DCSB Taco, and shorter than that DCLB.
Z71 versions of both tend to be loaded, and came standard with 3.73 gearing and the G80 rear locking diff. Not the best, but better than open. 285/75/17's shouldn't be too much work, and they also make 4-6" bracket lifts for them as well.
Also thinking of the 2500 version of the Burb/XL. Comes with the 6.0 or 8.1L, and the 4L80 trans and 14bolt rear. Bulletproof. Also, 38 gallon fuel tank. Even the 8.1L would have more range than any of the Yotas.
If I was looking for something just to take offroad, XJ for sure.

ZJ's are awesome! I'll take the Jeep 4.0 over that turd of a Toyota 4.0 anyday, and with the SFA those ZJ's are great offroad and easy to mod.
I had a 97, it was 15 years old when I got rid of it. It ran GREAT at that time, the main problem was that living in New England, corrosion was taking over. In retrospect I should have kept it, but at that point I had owned it 12 years and was ready to move on.
I don't know what makes 4Runner owners feel like they always need to slam Jeeps.
I hear you, I'd like to experience the Q7 that Audi sold in Europe with the 12 cylinder TDI that had 500HP and 738 lb-ft of TQ.
My friends had the V10 Touareg. I honestly liked my 6 cylinder TDI better. The V10 was so much heavier that the 3.0 was better all around even if not as fast off the line.
No idea how that v12 would be with a slightly more modern chassis though.

The fact that the 4runner hasnt made the change to all of these so called wants that all the other manufacturers are adding shows that Toyota actually understands what it means to have an off-road ready SUV. It's the last one still built on a frame vs. a nobody design like all other manufacturers have done, while yes you can put the others in 4wd or just the awd that can't be turned off, the fact is that the 4runner is a one of a kind suv. It has been bucking the trend to cater to what car buyers think they want and sticking with what the necessities of getting far off the beaten path are. That being said the 1st gen Touraeg would be a decent choice. But if your set on having something new just for all the "things" that make it better(according to the manufacturer and social media who don't really know what is needed for getting really out there) I've heard good things from my neighbor about his vw atlas.
I had a 2010 Diesel Touareg w/ air suspension and diff lock. It was terrific.
It couldn't get everywhere the 4Runner can, but I don't have the testicles (or time) to take my 4R much further than I took the Touareg anyway.

Putting a better engine in it isn't catering IMO and it certainly would only affect it's offroad worthiness positively.
