My 99 looked like that on one side. He should've used a rust converter as a first layer primer and then a filler primer to get rid of the pitting. Then some black undercoating topcoat paint. Would look like it came off the factory floor then. Also should've flipped those ubolts. That's the first thing I bought for my jeep. This guy did a great job though.

Those Safe-T-Caps are great. Just sent a note to the manufacturer on their web site to see if they have plans to make them for the 4Runner in the future.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I suppose if enough of us email the manufacturer we could convince them that it would be worth it.

I totally understand the sentiment. There's something about fixing a beater yourself, getting to know all of it's inherent flaws and even improving it beyond the original design.
