IFS flex

Body roll isnt as bad if you just remove the front and you have stiffer coils, like aha said. Extended links in the rear and no sway bar up front is the way to go for more flex.

Roger that. Probably better in our runner's, but I'm telling you, no sway bar in his modded Taco (he's running Fox coilovers with resi's) and that thing felt like an old Cadillac around corners . Needless to say he finally put it back in and I instantly noticed the difference without him telling me.

Is it normal for our 4runners to tripod a lot in the front? I noticed that the flex kind of sucks especially compared to live axle.

Could my springs be too stiff? I'm running the ome heavy springs but I thought I needed to for my front/rear bumper weight.

Here's a flex shot. notice the back flexes fine (solid axle) front is struggling lol.

agreed for sure unless u do long arm extended travel.. but by that cash drop u might as well do SAC

Long arm extended travel... I'm guessing you are refering to something like what I have, not too sure though, just never heard that term before. I know I get alot more flex then most of the IFS setups but I also never found away to fit my sway bar back in after my install (coils are too big). Its still nothing close to a SAS flex, or at least the type of flex I dream about.

Honestly you get used to not having a sway bar real quick when you have no choice.

Just took my swaybar off and Yes there is some "SWAY" but its not that bad. It Took me about 5 mins.

I really have to jerk the wheel hard to notice it dip. i came from a 2006 wrangler so I know all about driving with the discos off :)

Do they make a front swaybar disconnect kit ?? Seems like a good Idea if they dont.

Yup. off to the right when you enter.

Nope... someone tried to make one a few years ago for the FJs but I think it was abandoned after a couple were made. The design of the swaybar makes it difficult to allow for a disco without worrying about something contacting a moving part.

Damn. ICON should pick it up again. I'm sure they could figure it out.

I think that we need something with a center coupling that would allow the ends to stay connected and out of harm's way... I've been thinking about this on and off for about 6 months now. It would be nice to have something like the Rubicons have!

Do you mean like this? Where the center section is removable?

This is an interesting idea also, I like how they utilize the hiem joint as a connection point.

I was thinking more of TC long arm lift for the front they claim 13" of IFS travel but still nothing like a straight axle for flex

hiem joints are great for the links Phil makes extended sway bar links for the rear his user name is medic followed by some numbers over at Toyota120 he uses hiem joints to connect the rear bar to the extended link adds a great deal of travel to the rear even though we are talkin about the IFS

No... I mean some kind of a splined connection point in the center of the anti-sway bar. I haven't examined the mechanism that the Rubicons use for their electronic disconnects, but it can't be that complicated. I've even been thinking of a mechanical disconnect that has a "handle" in the driver-side wheel well. That handle would engage/disengage a coupling more toward the center of the anti-sway bar. This would require cutting the bar into two pieces and probably adding two more bushings for support. This thread is beginning to motivate me to continue this train of thought.

Food for thought... MOPAR 82210218 - MOPAR® Performance OEM Rubicon Edition Sway Bar Disconnect for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

That was my only thought of being able to disconnect ours thats awesome! they've finaly done it. looks like they put our sway bars on the new jk's i guess if we get more of our parts on jeeps will get more options for modifications lol (wish vendors would quit ignoring the 4runner it has needs to!!)

I think that I'm going to try and find a front anti-sway bar in a salvage yard and do some experimenting with a link design. I'm mostly concerned with rattling in the link area while "engaged", but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure something out.

The only issue I could think of Doozi with your idea of centrally disconnecting the sway bar into two halves would be in realignment. Even if you splined the ends, you would need to be able to force the two halves to line up enough to slip the sleeve over. With the electronically or hydraulically controlled units they can force the sway bar to line up, but a manual disconnect might pose a problem there.

I'm very interested in your idea and now you've got me thinking on how to achieve this idea.. unfortunetly I just don't have the money to sink into R&D on it. LoL

Bad Doozi! Stop making me want to design stuff! :rockthrow:

(Post Note) I just looked at my 4Runner and there really isn't a lot of room along the main body of the sway bar to fit something like a motor. I am using the stock gravel shield right now and had to stack a few 1/8" washers to stand it off so the bar wouldn't rub on bumps. But I also have a 2.5" OLW lift on my truck so the swaybar extender blocks lower it relative to where a stock sway bar would be... I don't know how much clearance an aftermarket skid plate like Budd Built would afford...

i've ran sway bar disconnects like Blackworks posted on a Chevy truck before. you only need to disconnect the end links, why are you trying to make some complicated splined sway bar when all that needs to be removed is the sway bar end links?

heck i ran my truck for months at a time with no sway bar end links at all. the sway doesnt move at all it just sits there botled in. and if you have heavy springs (or re indexed torsion keys like my Chevy) you wont even notice the added body roll.

It's because of the way the bar is bent and connected. Disconnects in the area most discos are would cause the sway bar to hang loose and get tangled in the suspension, and probably break something.

A lot of people run with no sway bar, but some people need them. I, for one, don't feel comfortable in the passenger seat of my 4R when my GF is driving without the sway bar. I tried it for a while but by the 2nd or 3rd time we got on the highway with her behind the wheel I decided to put it back.

edit- and we spend too much time on the highway, in my 4R, to just not let her drive it.
