Ignition cutoff switch install

I installed an ignition cutoff switch in my '77 Datsun 280Z and a friend asked if I could do the same to her '02 4Runner (3.4L V6). The Datsun still has it's simple OEM ignition system so I just ran a wire from the primary side of the coil to a SPST switch, and a second wire from this switch to ground. The '02 4Runner has a more complicated, high output ignition system than the Z has and I don't want to take a chance on damaging it (if it's even possible to install a similar cutoff switch). Does anyone in this forum know if this install is possible? Should I install a switch to cutoff voltage to the fuel pump instead (another popular method for 280Z's)?

Thanks for your help,

Bob

All you would need to do is install a switch on the black and red wire at the ignition switch. It will turn the engine off just as if your were turning the key off.

Wardriver--looking for an additional level of theft protection.

Singtoe--thanks for the advice, that's what I'm looking for.
