My 94 4runner came with a home grown remote start install when I bought it and I've been dealing with electrical problems. First, it was a fried out ignition switch that wouldn't connect to start the truck (it look like it had been melted), next it was my whole ignition system cutting out while driving, usually when braking. Instead of just using those quick connect splice things, the PO cut the insulation off the wires under the steering and literally twisted the remote start wires on and covered with electrical tape, in the process screwing the wires up so bad that some only had one or two strands still connected :redbrick: I got pissed removed the remote start and tried to repair the wiring. I used Wago clips to clip all the wires together. Not the greatest choice, but my soldering sucks in that tight space.
Well, the problem is back and stranded me at Lowes today. When it cuts out, no lights, engine dies, nothing. Then after you try 100 times, it will start, get you like 5 miles and repeat. Inspected the wiring and everything seems clipped up good. I haven't dropped the steering wheel yet to check out the ignition switch.
I want to make sure there are no other things that might cause this condition because this time, jiggling the wires doesn't fix it. Could anything else down the line shut the truck down randomly like this? Ignition coil (wasn't sure if that would kill the lights too)? Bad grounds? If I do find another fried switch, is there any way something could backfeed into the switch and fry them?
