So update.

I ordered a Bluetooth OBDII reader and got the codes on my CEL. P0753, which is a failing shift solenoid. Not too surprising since they are older than dirt and took a swim in water-infused ATF.

Just ordered a kit that comes with the pan gasket and a filter, so we should be good to go.

What was happening is that my ECU was putting the truck in limp mode.

We will see how this goes. I thought this might be a good thread to update for anyone else experiencing the same issue (assuming they used the search function)

I jumped in, turned the key, backed out of my driveway and put it in drive and no cigar. The engine just revved and it slugged forward a little. So I backed into my drive again. Played with the t-case and gear shifter for a while and discovered that I can drive fine in 1st gear but 2nd won't engage. All the while, my CEL is on. I'm going to limp to Autozone this weekend and get the codes pulled.

Standby for what I'm sure is going to be another interesting post!

That sucks man. Buy a $10 odb2 blue tooth adapter and pull your own codes on a phone.

So I've been reading a bit and it appears that I could be in "limp" mode. I'll know more when I get my scanner.

Or your transmission/transfer case is dying a slow death.

Possible the AT is full of water and that doesn't do so well for friction and such. Maybe drain and see what pan fluid looks line. Water is heavier than ATF and it will be the lower drained portion. Or if it's totally emulsified it will be a milkshake derivative. Look all hot pink and slimy. If it were me I'd drain it out and refill as much as possible.

Have seen multiple Nissan Frontier/X terra radiators fail causing coolant into ATF. About 3/4 are saved with a flush and new radiator so MAYBE you caught it soon enough.

That sucks. Sounds like the tranny to me. I bet you gots a PO770 hiding in there. Don't know if you've seen this thread but there's a lot of info from my experience.

Yeah it was full of water due to sinking the truck. I did a full flush and the fluid has been ruby red ever since. When I checked the dip stick the fluid was noticeably low so I added fluid and the CEL stuck around.

Today my ODBII reader came in the mail and I hooked it up. No CEL and no codes so IDK what the deal is. My guess was low fluid because that's all I did to it since. I figured that when I flushed, there was a lot of air left in the system that took some time to work out into the reservoir.

Not a bad idea to replace the radiator as PM. Fortunately, this vehicle is from Florida and has been in Oregon ever since. We don't salt our roads here.

Hopefully it ISN'T dying a slow death (but a used unit is $250 around here). Time will tell. 375,000 miles on the thing so it could definitely be at its end.
