You should be ok, as far as the valves go, as long as you're not pushing the motor at high rpms when it breaks.
However, all the material that comes from a shredded timing belt will propably take out cam and/or crank seals and possibly damage the timing cover.
Of course you will be stuck where ever you are as well.
If in doubt, replace it before it breaks.

As far as the valves and internals go, it's either an interference motor or non intereference motor. Non interference, no internal damage when it breaks unless material from the belt causes a problem which it normally doesn't, regardless of the rpms you're at.
Interference, valves get bent even if your motor isn't working hard.
I thought I read on here somewhere that the 3.4 is a non interference motor.
I'd put off changing the timing belt until your water pump starts making that "squeak, squeak, wrrr, squeak" sound. I switched my belt when I replaced the water pump. If you do it yourself, you have to have a special too to compress the tensioner pulley. Best of luck if you don't buy that tool--a lifesaver!
That's the price of the belt, plus a little extra thrown in for beer money! That's a great deal. The first time I did it, it took me 6 hours, the second time, 3.5. The tool I mentioned is only 25 beans online, and if you do the water pump I think it costs 175-200, but I can't remember exactly how much.
