Since the title failure with the 2nd gen I have decided to go another route. Picked up t hi is bad boy. Needs a fuel pump and battery. Here are the pics from the ad.

Got it home and did some poking around ... lots of rust but solid enough to be a good trail rig (I also want to drive this in the winter around town). Going through it found some paperwork. There was a reman installed back in 05. Less than 100k on the new engine.

1st objective is to get it running and be sure it drives. Then gut the wet flooring up and give the whole thing a good pressure wash.

The front axles are sitting on the bump stops due to broken springs so I'll go ahead and let a lift kit ordered. Looks like a lot of the frame and driveline components off the 1990 will swap over if need be.

I plan to. The main reason for swapping the other one was because I didnt want to mess with the 3.0 or ifs. I'm a squarebody chevy guy so the rust on this feels minimal to me. The frame is almost completely solid except for a small spot starting on both sides by the rear spring hangers. I'm aggravated with the 22re as I've never had a problem with the 22r in the crawler that I couldn't figure out in a couple hours.

Still can't get it to run? What's it doing?
 
Injectors not firing. Found this online. I put 12v to the batt and turned the key. It ran for a minute. (First time I've heard it run and it pures) turned it off connected a 12v source to it and not it wont start again. At least now it runs if I spray fuel in the intake. I've still got plenty of fuel psi at the csi. I left my noid lights at work

And if I put 12v on +b +b1 and batt the thing wont idle but I can lightly hold the accelerator and itll run. In fact I can just drive it around the yard. Yaahhhhh it drives. I love it already. It just wont idle but runs all long as ive got 12v on the 3 wires listed above.

I didn't see a rub mark. Knowing it runs and drives it's time to move forward. Ive got the the the rest of the interior gutted. The seat frames are even rusted in this thing. Luckily the seats from the 90 will bolt right up. Once I get this cleaned up I can further diag the electrical issues.


The regulator is rusted into pieces. I noticed on my spare second gen that the internals look like they will swap over.

Does anyone know if the exhaust pipe off a 22r will fit the 22re? They look very similar.

Not huge in the realm of the junk I usually mess with. Has anyone used flexseal on their floor? I am going to try it and see how it does. There is some cracking In the factory floor material. I'd like to seal it up before it rust. I've got enoght of that to mess with.

2nd gen seats/console and started cleaning up the wiring. Some people need to put the zip ties and electrical tape down. I have decided to run new wiring for what's messed up. The corrosion has gotten to the harness.

So I've assessed the situation. I need a engine, want a 5 speed, and of course eventually gearing. Taller tires as those are good to. After figuring it all out it's cheaper to by one built which someone mentioned somewhere in internet land. My buddy hasn't used his crawler in 4 years. I have kept it up and used it with very little reapairs. Its built for more than I need or want but shes got lots of good parts and everything works.

22r with a modified weber, 5 speed, 5.29 gears, chrome moly axles. Welder spiders front and rear with solid front hubs. Crossover steering


I've talked about buying it but I want something for road worthy, a windshield, and heat so that's why I got the 4runner. Anywho I bought the crawler today. Comes with a winch which he has to dig out and a set of 1st gen humvee wheels and tires(I think?) He already welded in 2 of the 6 log centers on the bead locks.

I've got a new 3" suspension lift. Hes got a longer spring up front and y(?) Linked rear. While it's got a ton of travel its sketchy on the road. I dont think 3" of left will let the 4 runner clear the 37s.

Just swap everything over to the other 4runner and take the welded carriers out of the axle's. You can probably clear 37's with 3 inch with cutting.
