Im looking at this truck saturday (Advice needed)

I just bought my 1st 4runner 5spd with 22re 4cyl engine and a good friend of mine is now interested in buying a 4runner. Were going to look at this truck in the morning and this one has the v6 with 300,000KM. I don't know alot about these trucks just heard that the headgaskets are a problem with the V6. If the HG's have been changed what signs are there to notice if they are on there way out again. Is 177,000 miles (300,000km) way to much? will this engine last or need a rebuild soon? If you have advice or any other things to look out for that would be great. Thank you

There is no signs for pre failure of the head gaskets. The signs come after failure. If they were replaced at a dealer there should be a record of it as to when and hopefully they will not fail again. The mileage on that vehicle is not high, but the price is at least in this area. The same vehicle here would go for 2300 to 2500 and have no rust at all.
The engine should last over twice that amount of mileage if it is kept up. You need to ask if the timing belt and water pump has been changed and when. About every 80,000 miles recommended.

my head gaskets just went at about 188,000 mi.as far as I know it is the first time. if it was replaced , then you should be good mile wise for a long time. I would ask the guy about the head gakets , and the timing belt too.

You should be fine mileage-wise - I bought mine with 224k and it runs great. As everyone said, the head gasket won't really give you any signs until it actually goes. Look for leaking oil around the sides of the engine - if it's there, then the hg is blown.

Also, run the VIN on Toyota's owner website. It will tell you if there are any open recalls and any dealer service that's been done for that particular car.

Looks to be in good condition, similar to my '92. Toyota did the V6 recalls if they blew before 100k miles...which happened on mine with the previous owner at ~73k. He had they go ahead and do other work at the time, so basically a full engine rebuild. I'm now at 153k with no problems....except that I picked up a '98 and so will be selling the '92 for around that price range.

On the rear window thing, it might be the relay. Mine went bad, but after replacing the relay board with a used one I haven't had an issue. Just keep that in mind when diagnosing it.

Looks nice. If it runs good and the price is within range, it seems to be a good option. If there was an identical one with the 22RE, I'd choose that over the 3VZE, but if not, jump on it.

Also, that is a sexy color.
