I'm new! 1990 V6 5speed 4wd. Hello 2nd gens!

Yeah, lol, mechanic just told me that. He said he cuts a groove with the wheel and slaps it with the chisel. XD
I had already tried the cutting wheel and thought I was doing it wrong, then the mechanic looks at it and goes "man you are so close. I do the same thing, I could go hit it with a hammer once and be done".
But he said I'd need to press fit it anyways. Then. .. he looked at the pinion and housing and all that. It's all shot. The ring gear wasn't too bad, but wow, the pinion was eaten worse than I thought. I didn't catch it till he pointed it out. He said the inside of the housing was eaten up too.
I appreciate his honesty, he said it'd be much cheaper to go to pull-a-part than to have him work on it. He said he hates walking money out the door but he didn't wanna kill my wallet getting it back to running right.

Well Craigslist is a bust, and pull a part is a bust too. I looked at 7 Runners at 2 different pullaparts, only one had my 4.10 ratio but the rear diff was gone. Differentials online are way too much money, so I think I'll be heading back to the scrap yard and pulling a front rear combo of the same ratio. I'm gonna go with a taller gear though. This Runner is gonna see more on-road and highway action than off road, and if I need a shorter gearing I always have the transfer case.

it doesn't have to the same year. there should be a metric shitton of 4.10 3rds out there.
id be surprised if there wasn't some for sale on this site right now.
and I bet there are several, if not many members that has 1 or more sitting in their garage at any given time...

Most people want 4:56's or 4:88's... you should be able to find a 4:10 if you are persistent. Also consider that your speedo will be off with a different gear ratio.
I live in Texas and I bought a third member from Washington state on ebay 2 years ago. Shipping was actually pretty cheap and easy.

Thanks guys, I found a set of axels with 4.10 gears! Gonna pick them up tomorrow and hopefully have this thing driving by Friday. I knew they didn't have to be the same years, but using the differential guide I was checking every 4runner, and toyota pickup, even the T100, but none had the right ratio. I was gonna just swap a different ratio but I found a seller on CL wroth a front and rear axel 4.10 ratio. That and i really didn't want to go through the trouble pulling the front. .. So gonna get that and if anything I'll have a spare front differential in case I need it or one of yall need it.

So the differential I got was from a 96, it's the right ratio, will bolt right up, but there's no spot for the speed sensor. I tried to search but couldn't find any info. Is there a way to relocate the speed sensor or do I have to get a different housing? I'm putting this housing on here anyways for now until I find a fix or find another housing. I got a gps speedo that will work fine for now. Lol.
It's Alive!
I got everything done today and this 4Runner is alive and kicking. I got the new differential on and changed the Trans, xfer, front diff and engine oil. Took it for a drive and it's so so nice and smooth now. That differential was the biggest issue and also lugged the engine bad. So it's road ready now with the exception of the front brakes needing some service.
Also. I thought it was the speed sensor on the rear differential. .. I'm still getting my speedo working though. What is that then?
On the right is the new donor differential from a 96 and my old one on the left.
