I'm Starting to Lean Towards the Michelin LTX A/T2s

Well, after being on this board a bit, I've heard over and over the chant of Revo, Revo, Revo....

So, I was planning to put those on my rig. I went to Discount yesterday and started talking to some guys, and now I'm really sold on getting the Michelin LTX A/T2s. This wasn't even a tire I was considering before, but I do remember running some older Michelins on my Tahoe (maybe LTX M/S) that I really liked. My parents have always bought Michelins.

They didn't have one on the floor. I'd sure like to see one in person first. I read some threads here, and it seems like Thai likes them and says they are much more aggressive looking in person.

Hmmmm....decisions.

BTW, Discount Tire is awesome. They have really been great working with me the past few days (cactus thorn in my tire). The guys on the phone have been prompt and helpful, and they put a used Michelin on my damaged tire and told me to get 5k more out of my Dunlops and then come back when I'm ready to buy some new ones. Free. I'm continually impressed with Discount. A lot of places would have pressured me to buy new tires on the spot.

I have them on my T4R . They are great in the snow , good all around traction . Good on rainy pavement too . Very quiet as well. Michelin knows how to build tires . I was also a big fan of the old ATX-LT's . Loved those tires, wish they still made that tread pattern .

I think that the LTX A/T-2 is a very good tire. Recently, i had to make a tire change. It was between this tire and BFG AT KO. I chose BFG simply because i use my G500 mostly for off-roading. If it was my daily driver, then i would definitely get LTX A/T-2. My only concern about LTX A/T-2 is the sidewall thickness/strength. I had a chance to take a close look at the sidewall of A/T-2 Load Range E and felt that it was kinda thin. Again, this is only a concern if you really take your rig off-road often.

As for the database error, Gatorgreg and the owner of hardware/software are working on it.

I highly recommend these tires

I've had these tires for 6 months now and absolutely love them! I have not experienced any slipping or sliding whatsoever. I've driven on ice, snow, dirt, some mud and never got stuck or lost traction. During some pacific northwest snowfall (about 3 or 4 inches), I tested these tires by hitting the brakes hard while going 20-25 MPH. The 4Runner, with all its technology, and these tires, came to a straight stop in a surprisingly short distance. I'm extremely impressed with these tires. The tread looks great after 6,000 miles (just breaking in).

My '04 4Runner is my daily driver and is 95% highway. These tires are incredibly quiet, especially compared to the stock Dunlops. I recommend them to everyone that needs new tires as long as it meets their purpose.

I'm running stock size.

I posted six months ago that Costco scratched (gouged) my rims during install. Well about 3 months later there was a knock on my door and the UPS man was stacking 4 brand new stock replacement rims on my doorstep. That's great customer service! :awais:

Having used both the Revos and the A/T2s, I have to say that I've been thoroughly impressed with the Michelins so far. I recently discovered a small screw in one of the Revo's sidewalls that wasn't repairable, but because Costco no longer carries the Revos, I decided to give the A/T2s a try since they prorated all four tires for the 55% of tread I had remaining. (Gotta love Costco!)

The Michelins' highway ride is noticeably quieter and they perform great in wet/packed snow, ice, mud and rain. Although the A/T2s' tread pattern doesn't appear as aggressive as the Revo's IMO, they sure seem to perform as well, if not better.

I also do quite a bit of off roading in the summertime here in Colorado and the Revos got me through some pretty gnarly terrain. I'm pretty anxious to test out the Michelins off road, but I have no doubt they'll do just fine.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, but for your needs, given the quieter ride and supposedly longer treadlife, I think the Michelins fit the bill. Happy trails!

I live in Edmonton, AB, Canada, and it gets pretty cold. (-40oF/-40oC) A friend of mine has a set and swears they are great! Apparently they use a 100% silica compound that remains pliable in very cold temperatures, and the compound extends through the depth of the treads. Unlike Bridgestone Blizzaks. I understand that they are one of a few truly "all-weather" tire and not an "all-season" tire. They show up on the Nokian web site under both the summer, and winter categories. They are "H" rated for speeds up to (210 Km/h = 130 mph). The Hakkapelitta 5's (a winter tire offered by Nokian) hold a Guiness speed record on ice!!! Nokian is made in Finland and not well reviewed here in North America. However, they are supposed to be very well liked in Europe. Just wondering if anyone has actual miles with this tire. A rep I called told me that Michelin, Yokohama, and BF Goodrich have all purchased samples in an attempt to reverse engineer their rubber compound. 14/32" tread depth in 265/70/17 vs. Michelin's 11/32", and bear the Severe weather emblem. But I'm not sure if this necessarily makes them any tougher! I'm not trying to slag the Michelins, I am simply looking for feedback. Maybe there is a different thread that deals with this?? Patience with the Newbie please.

I've got the Pirelli Sorpions, and love them. Great in the snow, and way better handling than anything I've had on a 4runner before. Had the revos, yokahama geos, etc.

Are they the Scorpion "Ice & Snow" or the "ATR"s? If they are the "Ice & Snow" style, do you change them out in the spring? Do you find they "stiffen up" when it is really cold? The stock Dunlops "square-off" on the botton when its' -25oF or colder and "round-out" again once they warm up over a couple miles.

I have the ATRs, and I've had no issues with them squaring off, even in Connecticut winters. Usually no colder than 0 in the winter, and my 4runner sits outside all the time. My Lightning gets the tires switched over in the summer, no need for the SUV, kinda would defeat the purpose-for me anyway.

I agree! It's a little ridiculous, but I've spent more hours than I'd care to admit researching different tires for the mighty Yota. I'm close to making a decision, but am holding off until I finish my lift, and brake upgrade. Hopefully before the end of this month, I'll be settled, and have a combination I can live with!

I'm torn between Revo's & the Mich AT/2 also. While I think the Revo's look better, I have to think the AT/2's will be noticeably quieter. I'm mostly a highway driver. I'm tired of reading tire threads!! Got to make decision!! AAAAHHHH!!

Saw some LTX AT2's tonight at the Tball field....they looked good...better than I was expecting. I may end up getting these myself. I'll start watching for a good deal.

As a mechanical engineer, the logical/conservative side almost always wins. Today, I broke that trend & went with the Revos. The logical side said the AT2's were probably better, especially for highway noise & treadlife. However, even a boring engineer has to live a little and the asthetic value tipped the scales in favor of the Revos. I'm sure the AT2's are great. My dad just bought some Mich LTX M&S...they seem very quiet, but they just kind of remind me of big, mushy marshmellows. The AT2's even have the Mich Man on the side.

I appreciate the good feedback from this tread & forum. I think Thai's probably right on with his tire assessment...I've found him to give very reliable, unbiased information. He may even be a fellow engineer!!

Hehehe...far from engineering...i am not particularly proficient at math nor abstract thinking. Keep us up to date with how your REVOs perform. They are very good tires and good long term traction due to their multi-compound tread.

After 24 hrs with my new Revos, here's my impressions: They're great..exactly what I was expecting.

Personal preference & needs play a large part in tire selection. The Revos are very quiet & ride much better than my stock Dunlops. If you're looking for a very quiet highway tire, the Mich AT2, LTX M&S, or CT's are probably quieter. They may also last longer. If you're looking for a great off-road or snow tire, there are better choices, like the BFG KO. We don't get much snow in Oklahoma, so that wasn't a factor for me.

At the end of the day, the Revos fit my needs: Good handling, good wet traction, smooth/quiet ride, & good occasional light offroad for hunting/fishing/camping (plus they look good!!)

Read through the threads....there's lots of good information here. Find something that fits your needs & you won't be sorry.

Be careful though....this forum has cost me quite a lot of coin this year.....too many good ideas!!
