iMac or PC?

So with the current promotion of the the iMacs at best buy.. I'm thinking about getting one.. or should I stick with PC instead?

this computer would be for photo editing, video editing, school work..

with the current promotion.. $100 in apple store gift card, $100 off student discount.. $100 off from best buy and reward zone points.. so really.. $1600 before taxes for an 27 in..

or should I stick with PC instead?

Macs are amazing computers, if you have the unlimited funds to actually buy one. I won't ever buy anything with Windows on it again personally. I say go for it if you have the money.
 
i bought my wife the 27" imac and she absolutely loves it. so much that she won't let me touch it!!! i've been demoted to using only my macbook. she used to work for the university of Washington's institute of tech/computing & software systems dept where she first used one(along with every other make and model of computer), fell in love with it, and had to have one.
 
I finally made the switch to Mac around 3 years ago. Bought a Mac mini (couldn't afford an iMac) and haven't had any problems with it! Will only buy Mac's in the future! The machines and OS is just better than Windows. If you can afford it, get the Apple Care, you never know when it may save your ass...

This has the potential to turn into another pissing match, but I would agree Mac. Even if you find yourself missing Windows :crazy:, you can still run it in bootcamp or sessions.

My MBP has been a tank and is running strong after 4 years. On that note, I don't see myself ever getting a desktop model. Laptops are just too convenient and in many cases plenty capable of running the more demanding software.
 
I've used pc my whole life and just recently switched to a mbp. while i love it and understand the craze now, i wouldnt say im an apple fanboy because of it. its a wonderful computer, but i wouldnt say id never buy a pc again. if youve never had one, i would definitely go for it and buy one, theyre awesome to use

+1. I've had a Macbook Pro for about 5 years and just bought an IMac for the home desktop about 2 years ago.

In my opinion, they're far more intuitive than PC's, and Apple seems to have already thought of anything that the user might want to be able to do.
 
I'm a Mac user. I have 3 MBPs of various ages, 2 desktop iMacs of various sizes, and multiple Apple displays. My office set up is a 27" iMac with a 30" cinema display attached.

I still have my old PowerBook from the early 2000s.....it's become a kitchen-based email appliance and glorified recipe book.

That said, I'll NEVER buy a PC-based machine again.
 
+1 for Mac.

Was part of the cult of blind Mac haters for a long time. Then I actually tried and learned OS X. now I'm a fan.
 
Crap, I need to switch! :D Still on PC platform because that is pretty much all I know. My two older brothers are split...one loves Macs, the other PCs.

Yes you do. I turned down a job last year because the office used PC machines and was not willing to support my iMac or MBP.
 
Looks like this is going to be a Mac landslide. Whatever works for you.

All I know is I spent a little time with an imac in the year 2000. Hooked up an external drive because, of course, that was necessary. OK, let's see, how do you eject the drive media? Long story short....drag the drive icon to the trash can. I'm not joking.

Noticed a few more "intuitive" things like this and went back to PC where I wasn't penalized for knowing how to use a file system.
 
Macs are terribly overpriced and all the theoretical photo and music and video editing they are capable of doing are lost on the 99.999% of Mac owners who buy them solely to look trendy while surfing the internet at Starbucks and occasionally adjusting their hipster glasses and sighing deeply as the epic screenplay/broadway show/political blog they're penning doesn't go anywhere.

I'm not a big fan of Windows, but see computers as disposable and see no reason why I should pay 2-3x for something that does nothing more or better. Windows 8 is so dreadful, tho, that I'm reconsidering that thought.

I agree 100%. I paid more so I don't have to deal with this bullsh1t......EVER:

Definitely a Mac. Worth the few extra $$.

I'm in the mag publishing industry and we've been heavy Mac since way before Macs were popular for the exact reasons for which you intend to use it. Power graphics users are who they've always been geared toward before they became so mainstream and affordable.

And they're not the dying platform that pc's are.

I do agree that they can be ridiculously priced (just bought a macbook pro and it was close to $4k when it was all said and done), but they hold their value way more as well. I recently sold a macbook pro from 2006 for $1,200.

I will say that I'm curious to see what will happen without Steve Jobs as well as with them becoming so large. Hopefully neither will have too much of a negative effect.

I bought a loaded Samsung ultrabook for about a 800 bucks that has all I need for photo editing and a 24" monitor for about 500 bucks if I need to plug it into something to get even better quality images. It's also perfect for streaming Neflix to my TV. I then bought my wife a fast desktop and fast laptop for school for less than 1500 combined.

When they break/wear out, I just buy another one.

To me the idea of having ONE good Mac for several "good enough" PC's is just not worth it.
