My originally owned 98 4runner has a small keypad on the left side of the steering column that is a security device that came with the car. When you turn the ignition to start the car, the keys on the pad would light up and you would enter a 4 number code to start the car. The device worked great for 15 years until now. It seems the keypad was damaged as it will not accept the start code anymore and the keys are flickering off and on. I worked on it for a while and it seems the board inside the keypad may be damaged and the car will not start due to this issue. The device has no markings, name or ID and the dealership indicated it was an after market security feature and had no information. I tried to remove the battery cables and reset to no avail. I can not find anything about this device anywhere on the net and I can't find my original paperwork from 15 years ago.
Does anyone know this device or have any suggestions as to how I can bypass it or disable it? I am stuck right now and can't use the truck!
The keypad is black with keys that light up and about 2 inches by 2.5 and 1/4 inch thick. It has numbers 0-9 and a * and # on the front. The black wire attached to it goes inside the dashboard and I can not see where it goes from there. The wire is E93579 22 AWG (UL) CL2 is that helps anyone figure this out.
