In dash CB install done! PICTURES

I got it done yesterday.

I installed a Cobra WX ST II under the after market CD deck. I was able to use two of the holes in the CD player cage to fasten the CB to the cage also. I have been told that you don't need to do this, because the CB is such a tight fight that it won't move around. But the holes were lined up...so why not stick a screw on each side? I also added the Wilson Lil' Wheel magnet antenna.

I ran the antenna cord off the back of the CB using a Elbow adapter to make sure there was enough clearance behind the CB, the cord runs along side the 4wheel drive stick, under the center console, under the carpet between the front seats and back seats, then under the carpet again under the back seat and then where the seat belt is held on next to the back seat I ran the antenna up that pillar to the head liner where it pops out. I had the antenna wire cut and mounted two males ends to the cut and use a two sided female plug so that the antenna can be removed, but the antenna wire I ran up the center of the car stays put.

yeah it's the HD unit. It's ok, I honestly can't REALLY tell the difference. It comes in a tiny bit clearer, certainly not well enough in my opinion to go out and buy the $200 tuner to add to an existing stereo, but if your in the market for a new deck, then consider this one. It's works really well, and hopefully as more stations go to HD then you will have more options. It seems like it really comes in clearer on certain songs...maybe it has to do with how they were recorded or something, I don't really know.

I bought it knowing that my #1 station was in HD format...then about a week after I got it I learned of a new station that had just hit the air waves, and I feel in love with it...NO HD though! BUMMER. But I still like the deck a lot!!

Thanks for the compliment! I owe a HUGE thanks to a buddy of mine who helped me do it. I never would have taken the CB antenna wire up the middle of the car like he did. I was going to around and under the drivers side door, it came out better going under the center console and was actually pretty darn easy. I even removed the back seat (which was only 2 bolts). I had never taken the interior of a vehicle apart to this extent...kind of fun actually

That's not the antenna, it's the mic cord coming out the front. The antenna goes in the back.

okay this Tsunami wiring

I am starting to read about it and it isn't cheap and why is it preferable?

Is it sort of like the Monster cable versus speaker wire argument?better materials and so on?

My application would be a rear cargo area powered subwoofer-I am looking at the Infinity Bass Link unit of about 100 or 200 watts. Would I benefit from having this high quality of power cable and other wiring or would it be overkill?

tsunami wiring is made by metra, who is a high-quality brand car-audio installation parts company.

You can find many cheap cheap amp kits online, but the problem i find is that their fuseholders are crappy, the wire is stiff as hell, and they are never the right GA (8 ga looks like 10 ga and 4ga looks like 8 ga)

I use their V10 series RCA's they are actually pretty affordable and ive had good luck with them keeping any noise out.

So overall, the tsunami stuff is good IMO yes, i used to sell rockford wires and stuff, and i find that it gets really stiff over time and i was never a big fan of their fuseholders.

For a bass link you would most likley need

How long did it take you?

The entire CB install took about an hour...at the most. The hardest part was getting the wire under the carpet between the back of the center console and the back seat...the carpet was glued down, and I could barely squeeze my wrist under there...but it wasn't to bad once I stopped trying to salvage the carpet glue. I just yanked on the carpet and shoved the wire under it. When I got done, you can't even tell that I messed with the carpet at all...so don't be shy!

thanks Nserpa that is good info and part numbers so I can just go out and tell them what I need thanks very much.

I have seen these amp wiring kits and my friends say they are all junk -better to wire them up themselves-so I will show them these Tsunamis and get their valued opinions as well.


okay now with regards to the powered subwoofer-I am leaning towards an Infinity Bass Link kind of square looking unit to mount (upright) to the floor in my back cargo area-immediately behind the back seats. I am also considering a Blaupunkt THb unit that would go under the driver's seat (I am a manual transmission)

Do you have knowledge of these units? and I would welcome your thoughts on placement, other brands, etc.. My dog rides in the far back so I don't want a huge speaker box back there for her to drool over/scratch up.

I am not looking to blow out glass or rattle my license plate, just want some thump to the low end notes.

Next we will get into the front door component speaker system...

the bass link is a decent product for a fully contained amp / sub fixture.

MTX also makes one called the X-Thunderlink.

Both have and active and passive subwoofer and sound decent.

Putting one under the seat is kinda ifffy, unless it was another bass-link / thunderlink.

They both have grills to so the dog wont get punched in the nostril by the subwoofer if he gets curious and gets close while the music is playing
