I was not familiar with the MTX brand so I will check that one out while shopping.

okay now on to the front doors. I see you are running the Polk (Momo) series speakers and is the crossover included with it? Does that replace the tweeter as well?

Are you happy with the sound or wishing you had gone with another? I have heard good things about the Polks but never owned any. Momo is confusing me-is that a color scheme for the speakers-special trim or what? I am thinking of MOMO as some brand of Italian car company but not sure why...

I run the polk MMC6500 in the fronts, i absolutley love them, sure they are not the best speakers in the world, but they are not ungodly expensive (such as polk SR series which are appx $700 a pair i belive, but they sound great)

They do come with the crossover, however i dont use it, im running a polk C400.4 amp which runs just the front speakers.

The two front channels on the amp go directly to the tweeters and the two rear channels go directly to the 6.5" mids

In other words, instead of using a passive crossover, they are using the active crossover in the amp. The c400.4 comes with a pre-set button that sets the crossover points, you just set the gain, i think it sounds awesome.

They are a carbon fiber cone, which is very rigid, which is good, and overall they are a great speaker.

Highs dont make your ears bleed either like most of the kicker speakers do.

The momo thing is a big car thing for imports and such, polk actually does claim they used "italian" engineering on their momo series spakers so i think thats where the MOMO branding comes from

okay- so I am not going to be using an amp so I would want to use their supplied crossover correct?

and the crossover mounts in each door? and the tweeter is a separate piece to replace the factory one?


this is really good info and thanks for sharing your knowledge-the car stereo guys I try to talk to really don't know 4Runners first and foremost and tend to push the highest end stuff on me which I generally have no need for-unless it's on sale big time!

for example- I have read that the 3rd gen back doors will fit 5 and 1/4" speakers with an adapter to make it fit the 4" mounting holes-but when it came time to make it happen suddenly the adapters could not be located anywhere in town. So I presently have 4" in the back doors-Polks I think-but I really wanted the 5 1/4s as the specs were significantly better.:awais:

i wanted 5.25 too but was too lazy to make an adapter at the time..sounds ok and helps bring the imaging forward

my CB install at last completed and car audio done long ago

okay I finally have my CB radio in place just like you did nserpa9248-but mine is not as wide but still fit in the double din space with my existing Sony head unit.

The reason I came back upon this thread was a magic search feature for the Bass Link unit. I have mine mounted in the rear cargo area and it has been fantastic for the price paid. I got a used on off Ebay I think it was like $78 bucks plus $15 shipping or so.

However now I am ready to try a horizontal mount of the Bass Link and discovering I lack the 4 horizontal brackets and 2 additional threaded rods to do so. They did not come with my unit-nor did the remote gain knob.

Anyone lurking along got extra Bass Link parts they do not want or need?

Thanks again nserpa for letting me ask questions to verify my install before I spent my hard earned dough. I had Circuit City do the install (and they are now deceased) and they did indeed use Tsunami wiring kit.

I still want to get the 5.25" Polks to fill out my rear doors sound a bit more, but that will have to await a real paycheck.
