In general, what is it like to own a 4runner?

I'll be moving from a luxury sedan to a 2012-13 4runner in the next 2 weeks or so. The only things I am looking for in this car are a backup camera and navigation (for convenience and the fact that I'm moving from a sedan to a giant suv).

I live in colorado now, and there is a good chance I'll never be doing any offroading, so when I look at the 3 main models (sr5 limited and trail) I don't see any negligible differences other than leather interior or wheel size and some offroad features.

Is it imperative that I get a model above the sr5? And what are some general characteristics in the daily functioning of a 4runner that I should look out for except for bad gas mileage?

Get a 4x4 specially in colorado. V8? Should be available in all models, gadgets would be the diference(leather,towing,camera etc..) locking diff is another add on.

You'll forget about other cars and fall in love with the runner.. High resale value.. They never go out of style.

Thats what im getting here in the next few weeks, 4x4 you'll have a quicker resale if you ever plan on getting rid of it.
 
You live in CO and are not going to wheel it?! You're crazy lol. You'd be just fine in the SR5. The Limited is full time 4 wheel drive. I'd go for that one if you're not going to mod it much. Better piece of mind in the winters. It's still going to drive differently than a luxury sedan.

The Limited is obviously the more luxurious of the trims. 20" tires and the center diff are what stand out to me on the Limited.
SR5... would be fine for the majority of us. Great looking, highly capable 4X4 out of the box.
Trail is what I prefer. I spend days on the lake in the winter ice fishing, hunting on logging roads in the fall and camping in the summer. Mainly I get Trails for the locking rear diff, multi terrain select, and the non-functional but aesthetically pleasing hood scoop.
I wouldn't consider the 4runner a giant SUV. Sequoia, Yukon, Expedition are giant.
KDSS is currently only offered for TE & TEP. I've never driven a Limited but KDSS is the cats A$$ on the road compared to not having it. Steering with KDSS is more responsive and has less body roll.
4runner handles/feels more like a pickup truck than your typical SUV or crossover.

-The 4Runner is not a "giant SUV"
-Limited has full time 4x4, which can be a benefit in snow. SR5 and Trail are 4x2 with selectable 4x4 which doesn't have an open center diff, so you will get binding if used on roads that aren't covered in snow and ice
-The 4Runner won't give you any advantage in snow unless you get a set of quality snow tires, and those may not always help in the first snowfall of the year which inadvertantly turns to ice
-The biggest differences are the KDSS on the Trail and the super nice interior on the Limited (which also has a full time 4x4 with center locker)

I have lived off and on in Colorado for years, so don't let the fact that I am currently on the Gulf throw you on my snow experience.

The ownership experience is like a mouth party from Kate Beckingsale.

Wow. I own two right now. Never realized that....
 
There is a sense of security and safety when your behind the wheel, at least for me. This is my first truck, I traded in a 2007 Hemi Charger for it so to say there was a learning curve would be an understatement. The 4Runner is rock solid and predictable and even with the V6 it has plenty of power. You say you will probably never take it off road..... mistake. That's the best part, after taking mine offroading a couple times I was in awe of the capabilities of this vehicle. Even better is after you go off road you look at every 4Runner you see when you are driving around and you smile knowing that 95% of those drivers don't have a clue about what their 4Runner is capable of.
 
Ok, I probably will be taking it off road just a little. I just don't want to scratch or scrape over rocks or run into trees after owning it for so little time. I don't want to be spending money on offroad features I won't be using, but there aren't any similar cars.
 
I was just kidding earlier. It's more like getting robbed. You buy the truck, start reading this forum, and money starts disappearing.
